The Shed Blood of Jesus
Christ
1) Mankind
is special to God with life in its blood.
But you
shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood. Surely for
your lifeblood I will demand a reckoning; from the hand of every beast I will require
it, and from the hand of man. From the hand of every man’s brother
I will require the life of man. Whoever sheds man’s blood, by man his blood shall be shed; For in the
image of God He made man. Genesis 9:4-6
2) God decreed that blood was necessary for
atonement.
For the life of the flesh is in
the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for
your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement
for the soul. Leviticus 17:11
3) The Passover sacrifice had to be
a lamb without blemish.
Now the Lord spoke to
Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying, “This month shall be your
beginning of months; it shall be the first month of the year
to you. Speak to all the congregation of Israel, saying: ‘On
the tenth of this month every man shall take for himself a lamb, according
to the house of his father, a lamb for a household. And
if the household is too small for the lamb, let him and his neighbor next to
his house take it according to the number of the persons; according
to each man’s need you shall make your count for the lamb. Your lamb shall
be without blemish, a male of the first year. You may take it from
the sheep or from the goats. Now you shall keep it until the fourteenth
day of the same month. Then the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel
shall kill it at twilight. And they shall take some of
the blood and put it on the two doorposts and on the lintel of
the houses where they eat it. Then they shall eat the flesh on that night; roasted
in fire, with unleavened bread and with bitter herbs they
shall eat it. Do not eat it raw, nor boiled at all with water,
but roasted in fire—its head with its legs and its entrails. You
shall let none of it remain until morning, and what remains of it until morning
you shall burn with fire. And thus, you shall eat it: with a
belt on your waist, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand. So,
you shall eat it in haste. It is the Lord’s
Passover.” Exodus 12:1-11
4)
The Old Testament prophesied about the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
My God, My God, why have You forsaken
Me? Why are You so far from helping Me,
and from the words of My groaning? O My God, I cry in the daytime, but You do not
hear; and in the night season, and am not silent. But You are holy,
enthroned in the praises of Israel. Our fathers trusted in You; They
trusted, and You delivered them. They cried to You, and were delivered; They
trusted in You, and were not ashamed. But I am a worm, and no man; A
reproach of men, and despised by the people. All those who see Me ridicule Me;
They shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying, “He trusted
in the Lord, let Him rescue Him; Let Him deliver Him, since He delights in
Him!” But You are He who took Me out of the womb; You made Me
trust while on My mother’s breasts. I was cast upon You from birth.
From My mother’s womb You have been My God. Be not far from Me, for
trouble is near; For there is none to help. Many bulls have
surrounded Me; Strong bulls of Bashan have encircled Me.
They gape at Me with their mouths, like a raging and
roaring lion. I am poured out like water, and all My bones are out of joint; My
heart is like wax; It has melted within Me. My strength is dried up like a
potsherd, and My tongue clings to My jaws; You have brought Me to the dust
of death. For dogs have surrounded Me; The congregation of the wicked has
enclosed Me. They pierced My hands and My feet; I can count all My bones.
They look and stare at Me. They divide My garments among them, and
for My clothing they cast lots. Psalm 22:1-18
He is despised and rejected by men, a Man
of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it
were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem
Him. Surely, He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows;
Yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But
He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for
our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by
His stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; We
have turned, every one, to his own way; And the Lord has laid on Him
the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed and He was afflicted, yet He
opened not His mouth; He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep
before its shearers is silent, so He opened not His mouth. He was taken
from prison and from judgment, and who will declare His generation?
For He was cut off from the land of the living; For the transgressions of
My people He was stricken. And they made His
grave with the wicked—But with the rich at His death, because He had done no
violence, nor was any deceit in His mouth. Yet it pleased
the Lord to bruise Him; He has put Him to grief. When
You make His soul an offering for sin, He shall see His seed, He
shall prolong His days, And the pleasure of the Lord shall
prosper in His hand. He shall see the labor of His soul, and be
satisfied. By His knowledge My righteous Servant shall justify
many, for He shall bear their iniquities. Isaiah 53:3-11
5) John the Baptist proclaims Jesus Christ as
the Lamb of God.
The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him,
and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the
world!” John 1:29
6) The New Covenant is the shed
blood of Jesus Christ for remission of sins.
Then He took the cup, and gave
thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all
of you. For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is
shed for many for the remission of sins.” Matthew 26:27-28
7) Faith in Jesus Christ and His
sacrifice justifies you before God.
But now the righteousness of
God apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and
the Prophets, even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus
Christ, to all and on all who believe. For there is no difference; for all
have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified
freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ
Jesus, whom God set forth as a propitiation by
His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His
forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously
committed, to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He
might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus. Romans
3:21-26
8) Faith in Jesus Christ and His
sacrifice saves us from the wrath of God.
Much more then, having now been
justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through
Him. For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God
through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by
His life. And not only that, but we also rejoice in
God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the
reconciliation. Romans 5:9-11
9) The shed blood of Jesus Christ
must be taken seriously.
For I received from the Lord that
which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night
in which He was betrayed took bread; and when He had given thanks, He
broke it and said, “Take, eat; this is My body which
is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” In the same
manner He also took the cup after supper,
saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do,
as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” For as often
as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s
death till He comes. Therefore, whoever eats this bread or
drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be
guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. 1 Corinthians 11:23-27
10) His shed blood provides eternal
redemption, forgiveness, and inheritance.
In Him we have redemption through
His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His
grace which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence, having
made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good
pleasure which He purposed in Himself, that in the dispensation
of the fullness of the times He might gather together in one all
things in Christ, both which are in heaven and which are on earth—in Him.
In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according
to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His
will, that we who first trusted in Christ should be to the praise of
His glory.
Ephesians 1:7-12
For this reason we also, since the
day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be
filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual
understanding; that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully
pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing
in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all might, according to
His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy;
giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the
inheritance of the saints in the light. He has delivered us from the
power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of
His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of
sins. Colossians 1:9-14
11) The will of God will be
accomplished through the shed blood of Jesus Christ.
Now may the God of
peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great
Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting
covenant, make you complete in every good work to do His
will, working in you what is well pleasing in His sight, through
Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen. Hebrews
13:20-21
12) Praises
to Jesus Christ are sung in heaven for His death and shed blood.
Now when He
had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down
before the Lamb, each having a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which
are the prayers of the saints. And they sang a new song, saying: “You
are worthy to take the scroll, and to open its
seals; For You were slain, and have redeemed us to
God by
Your blood out of every tribe and tongue and people and
nation, and have made us kings and priests to our God; And we shall reign on the
earth.” Then I looked, and I heard the voice of many angels around the throne,
the living creatures, and the elders; and the number of them was ten thousand
times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands, saying with a loud voice: “Worthy is the Lamb who was
slain to receive power and riches and wisdom, and strength and honor and glory and blessing!” Revelation 5:8-12
