Coming to Salvation
Note: Wise men came to worship Jesus Christ.
Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the
king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, "Where
is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in
the East and have come to worship Him." Matthew 2:1-2
When they heard the king, they departed; and behold, the star which
they had seen in the East went before them, till it came and stood over
where the young Child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced with
exceedingly great joy. And when they had come into the house, they saw
the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshiped Him.
And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him:
gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Matthew 2:9-11
Note: Do you believe that Jesus Christ is the Messiah?
Philip found Nathanael and said to him, "We have found Him of whom
Moses in the law, and also the prophets, wrote--Jesus of Nazareth, the
son of Joseph." And Nathanael said to him, "Can anything good come out
of Nazareth?" Philip said to him, "Come and see." Jesus saw Nathanael
coming toward Him, and said of him, "Behold, an Israelite indeed, in
whom is no deceit!" Nathanael said to Him, "How do You know me?" Jesus
answered and said to him, "Before Philip called you, when you were
under the fig tree, I saw you." Nathanael answered and said to Him,
"Rabbi, You are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!" Jesus
answered and said to him, "Because I said to you, 'I saw you under the
fig tree,' do you believe? You will see greater things than these." And
He said to him, "Most assuredly, I say to you, hereafter you shall see
heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the
Son of Man." John 1:45-51
The woman said to Him, "I know that Messiah is coming" (who is called
Christ). "When He comes, He will tell us all things." Jesus said to
her, "I who speak to you am He." And at this point His disciples came,
and they marveled that He talked with a woman; yet no one said, "What
do You seek?" or, "Why are You talking with her?" The woman then left
her waterpot, went her way into the city, and said to the men, "Come,
see a Man who told me all things that I ever did. Could this be the
Christ?" Then they went out of the city and came to Him. In the
meantime His disciples urged Him, saying, "Rabbi, eat." But He said to
them, "I have food to eat of which you do not know." Therefore, the
disciples said to one another, "Has anyone brought Him anything to
eat?" Jesus said to them, "My food is to do the will of Him who sent
Me, and to finish His work. Do you not say, 'There are still four
months and then comes the harvest'? Behold, I say to you, lift up your
eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest!
And he who reaps receives wages, and gathers fruit for eternal life,
that both he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together. For in
this the saying is true: 'One sows and another reaps.' I sent you to
reap that for which you have not labored; others have labored, and you
have entered into their labors." And many of the Samaritans of that
city believed in Him because of the word of the woman who testified,
"He told me all that I ever did." So, when the Samaritans had come to
Him, they urged Him to stay with them; and He stayed there two days.
And many more believed because of His own word. Then they said to the
woman, "Now we believe, not because of what you said, for we ourselves
have heard Him and we know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior
of the world." John 4:25-42
And He said, "Therefore I have said to you that no one can come to Me
unless it has been granted to him by My Father." From that time many of
His disciples went back and walked with Him no more. Then Jesus said to
the twelve, "Do you also want to go away?" But Simon Peter answered
Him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.
Also, we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ, the Son
of the living God." John 6:65-69
Note: Have you sincerely believed in Jesus Christ?
There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.
This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, "Rabbi, we know that
You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You
do unless God is with him." Jesus answered and said to him, "Most
assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the
kingdom of God." Nicodemus said to Him, "How can a man be born when he
is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?"
Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of
water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is
born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is
spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born again.' The
wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot
tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born
of the Spirit." Nicodemus answered and said to Him, "How can these
things be?" Jesus answered and said to him, "Are you the teacher of
Israel, and do not know these things? Most assuredly, I say to you, We
speak what We know and testify what We have seen, and you do not
receive Our witness. If I have told you earthly things and you do not
believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things? No one has
ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son
of Man who is in heaven. And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the
wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever
believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God so
loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever
believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God
did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the
world through Him might be saved. He who believes in Him is not
condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he
has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this
is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men
loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For
everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the
light, lest his deeds should be exposed. But he who does the truth
comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have
been done in God." John 3:1-21
All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to
Me I will by no means cast out. For I have come down from heaven, not
to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. This is the will of
the Father who sent Me, that of all He has given Me I should lose
nothing but should raise it up at the last day. And this is the will of
Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may
have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day." John
6:37-40
Note: Will you come to Jesus Christ for eternal healing?
Now when Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to Him, pleading
with Him, saying, "Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed,
dreadfully tormented." And Jesus said to him, "I will come and heal
him." The centurion answered and said, "Lord, I am not worthy that You
should come under my roof. But only speak a word, and my servant will
be healed. For I also am a man under authority, having soldiers under
me. And I say to this one, 'Go,' and he goes; and to another, 'Come,'
and he comes; and to my servant, 'Do this,' and he does it." When Jesus
heard it, He marveled, and said to those who followed, "Assuredly, I
say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel! And
I say to you that many will come from east and west, and sit down with
Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. But the sons of the
kingdom will be cast out into outer darkness. There will be weeping and
gnashing of teeth." Then Jesus said to the centurion, "Go your way; and
as you have believed, so let it be done for you." And his servant was
healed that same hour. Matthew 8:5-13
And a certain centurion's servant, who was dear to him, was sick and
ready to die. So, when he heard about Jesus, he sent elders of the Jews
to Him, pleading with Him to come and heal his servant. And when they
came to Jesus, they begged Him earnestly, saying that the one for whom
He should do this was deserving, for he loves our nation, and has built
us a synagogue." Then Jesus went with them. And when He was already not
far from the house, the centurion sent friends to Him, saying to Him,
"Lord, do not trouble Yourself, for I am not worthy that You should
enter under my roof. Therefore, I did not even think myself worthy of
coming to You. But say the word, and my servant will be healed. For I
also am a man placed under authority, having soldiers under me. And I
say to one, 'Go,' and he goes; and to another, 'Come,' and he comes;
and to my servant, 'Do this,' and he does it." When Jesus heard these
things, He marveled at him, and turned around and said to the crowd
that followed Him, "I say to you, I have not found such great faith,
not even in Israel!" Luke 7:2-9
And behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he was a ruler of the
synagogue. And he fell down at Jesus' feet and begged Him to come to
his house, for he had an only daughter about twelve years of age, and
she was dying. But as He went, the multitudes thronged Him. Now a
woman, having a flow of blood for twelve years, who had spent all her
livelihood on physicians and could not be healed by any, came from
behind and touched the border of His garment. And immediately her flow
of blood stopped. And Jesus said, "Who touched Me?" When all denied it,
Peter and those with him said, "Master, the multitudes throng and press
You, and You say, 'Who touched Me?'" But Jesus said, "Somebody touched
Me, for I perceived power going out from Me." Now when the woman saw
that she was not hidden, she came trembling; and falling down before
Him, she declared to Him in the presence of all the people the reason
she had touched Him and how she was healed immediately. And He said to
her, "Daughter, be of good cheer; your faith has made you well. Go in
peace." While He was still speaking, someone came from the ruler of the
synagogue's house, saying to him, "Your daughter is dead. Do not
trouble the Teacher." But when Jesus heard it, He answered him, saying,
"Do not be afraid; only believe, and she will be made well." When He
came into the house, He permitted no one to go in except Peter, James,
and John, and the father and mother of the girl. Now all wept and
mourned for her; but He said, "Do not weep; she is not dead, but
sleeping." And they ridiculed Him, knowing that she was dead. But He
put them all outside, took her by the hand and called, saying, "Little
girl, arise." Then her spirit returned, and she arose immediately. And
He commanded that she be given something to eat. And her parents were
astonished, but He charged them to tell no one what had happened. Luke
8:41-56
So, Jesus came again to Cana of Galilee where He had made the water
wine. And there was a certain nobleman whose son was sick at Capernaum.
When he heard that Jesus had come out of Judea into Galilee, he went to
Him and implored Him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the
point of death. Then Jesus said to him, "Unless you people see signs
and wonders, you will by no means believe." The nobleman said to Him,
"Sir, come down before my child dies!" Jesus said to him, "Go your way;
your son lives." So, the man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him,
and he went his way. And as he was now going down, his servants met him
and told him, saying, "Your son lives!" Then he inquired of them the
hour when he got better. And they said to him, "Yesterday at the
seventh hour the fever left him." John 4:46-52
Note: Will you come to Jesus Christ for eternal refreshment?
At that time Jesus answered and said, "I thank You, Father, Lord of
heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and
prudent and have revealed them to babes. Even so, Father, for so it
seemed good in Your sight. All things have been delivered to Me by My
Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father. Nor does anyone
know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to
reveal Him. Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I
will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am
gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For
My yoke is easy and My burden is light." Matthew 11:25-30
On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried
out, saying, "If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who
believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow
rivers of living water." But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom
those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet
given, because Jesus was not yet glorified. John 7:37-39
Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall
according to the same example of disobedience. For the word of God is
living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing
even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and
is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. And there is
no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to
the eyes of Him to whom we must give account. Seeing then that we have
a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son
of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a High
Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points
tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the
throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in
time of need. Hebrews 4:11-16
"I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things in the
churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright and
Morning Star." And the Spirit and the bride say, "Come!" And let him
who hears say, "Come!" And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires,
let him take the water of life freely. Revelation 22:16-17
Note: Will you lose your life for Jesus Christ?
Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone desires to come after Me,
let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever
desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for
My sake will find it. For what profit is it to a man if he gains the
whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in
exchange for his soul? For the Son of Man will come in the glory of His
Father with His angels, and then He will reward each according to his
works. Matthew 16:24-27
When He had called the people to Himself, with His disciples also, He
said to them, "Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself,
and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his
life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the
gospel's will save it. For what will it profit a man if he gains the
whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in
exchange for his soul? For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in
this adulterous and sinful generation, of him the Son of Man also will
be ashamed when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy
angels." Mark 8:34-38
Then He said to them all, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him
deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. For whoever
desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for
My sake will save it. For what profit is it to a man if he gains the
whole world, and is himself destroyed or lost? For whoever is ashamed
of Me and My words, of him the Son of Man will be ashamed when He comes
in His own glory, and in His Father's, and of the holy angels.” Luke
9:23-26
Note: Will you repent and come back to God?
“Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of
God over one sinner who repents." Then He said: "A certain man had two
sons. And the younger of them said to his father, 'Father, give me the
portion of goods that falls to me.' So, he divided to them his
livelihood. And not many days after, the younger son gathered all
together, journeyed to a far country, and there wasted his possessions
with prodigal living. But when he had spent all, there arose a severe
famine in that land, and he began to be in want. Then he went and
joined himself to a citizen of that country, and he sent him into his
fields to feed swine. And he would gladly have filled his stomach with
the pods that the swine ate, and no one gave him anything. But when he
came to himself, he said, 'How many of my father's hired servants have
bread enough to spare, and I perish with hunger! I will arise and go to
my father, and will say to him, "Father, I have sinned against heaven
and before you, and I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Make
me like one of your hired servants."' And he arose and came to his
father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and
had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him. And the
son said to him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your
sight, and am no longer worthy to be called your son.' But the father
said to his servants, 'Bring out the best robe and put it on him and
put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet. And bring the fatted
calf here and kill it and let us eat and be merry; for this my son was
dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.' And they began to
be merry. Now his older son was in the field. And as he came and drew
near to the house, he heard music and dancing. So, he called one of the
servants and asked what these things meant. And he said to him, 'Your
brother has come, and because he has received him safe and sound, your
father has killed the fatted calf.' But he was angry and would not go
in. Therefore, his father came out and pleaded with him. So, he
answered and said to his father, 'Lo, these many years I have been
serving you; I never transgressed your commandment at any time; and yet
you never gave me a young goat, that I might make merry with my
friends. But as soon as this son of yours came, who has devoured your
livelihood with harlots, you killed the fatted calf for him.' And he
said to him, 'Son, you are always with me, and all that I have is
yours. It was right that we should make merry and be glad, for your
brother was dead and is alive again, and was lost and is found.'" Luke
15:10-32
Note: Will you come to Jesus Christ with child-like faith?
Then little children were brought to Him that He might put His hands on
them and pray, but the disciples rebuked them. But Jesus said, "Let the
little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the
kingdom of heaven." Matthew 19:13-14
Then they brought little children to Him, that He might touch them; but
the disciples rebuked those who brought them. But when Jesus saw it, He
was greatly displeased and said to them, "Let the little children come
to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God.
Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as
a little child will by no means enter it." And He took them up in His
arms, put His hands on them, and blessed them. Mark 10:13-16
Then they also brought infants to Him that He might touch them; but
when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them. But Jesus called them to
Him and said, "Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid
them; for of such is the kingdom of God. Assuredly, I say to you,
whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by
no means enter it." Luke 18:15-17
Note: Have you come to God through Jesus Christ?
Thomas said to Him, "Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how
can we know the way?" Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and
the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. If you had
known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know
Him and have seen Him." John 14:5-7
And inasmuch as He was not made priest without an oath (for they have
become priests without an oath, but He with an oath by Him who said to
Him: "The Lord has sworn and will not relent, 'You are a priest forever
According to the order of Melchizedek' "), by so much more Jesus has
become a surety of a better covenant. Also, there were many priests,
because they were prevented by death from continuing. But He, because
He continues forever, has an unchangeable priesthood. Therefore, He is
also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him,
since He always lives to make intercession for them. For such a High
Priest was fitting for us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate
from sinners, and has become higher than the heavens; who does not need
daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifices, first for His own
sins and then for the people's, for this He did once for all when He
offered up Himself. For the law appoints as high priests men who have
weakness, but the word of the oath, which came after the law, appoints
the Son who has been perfected forever. Hebrews 7:20-28
But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the
heavenly Jerusalem, to an innumerable company of angels, to the general
assembly and church of the firstborn who are registered in heaven, to
God the Judge of all, to the spirits of just men made perfect, to Jesus
the Mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that
speaks better things than that of Abel. Hebrews 12:22-24
Note: However, religious people will not come to Jesus Christ.
And Jesus answered and spoke to them again by parables and said: "The
kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who arranged a marriage for
his son and sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the
wedding; and they were not willing to come. Again, he sent out other
servants, saying, 'Tell those who are invited, "See, I have prepared my
dinner; my oxen and fatted cattle are killed, and all things are ready.
Come to the wedding."' But they made light of it and went their ways,
one to his own farm, another to his business. And the rest seized his
servants, treated them spitefully, and killed them. But when the king
heard about it, he was furious. And he sent out his armies, destroyed
those murderers, and burned up their city. Then he said to his
servants, 'The wedding is ready, but those who were invited were not
worthy.’” Matthew 22:1-8
Then He began to speak to them in parables: "A man planted a vineyard
and set a hedge around it, dug a place for the wine vat and built a
tower. And he leased it to vinedressers and went into a far country.
Now at vintage-time he sent a servant to the vinedressers, that he
might receive some of the fruit of the vineyard from the vinedressers.
And they took him and beat him and sent him away empty-handed. Again,
he sent them another servant, and at him they threw stones, wounded him
in the head, and sent him away shamefully treated. And again, he sent
another, and him they killed; and many others, beating some and killing
some. Therefore, still having one son, his beloved, he also sent him to
them last, saying, 'They will respect my son.' But those vinedressers
said among themselves, 'This is the heir. Come, let us kill him, and
the inheritance will be ours.' So, they took him and killed him and
cast him out of the vineyard. Therefore, what will the owner of the
vineyard do? He will come and destroy the vinedressers and give the
vineyard to others. Have you not even read this Scripture: 'The stone
which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone.’” Mark
12:1-10
Then He began to tell the people this parable: "A certain man planted a
vineyard, leased it to vinedressers, and went into a far country for a
long time. Now at vintage-time he sent a servant to the vinedressers,
so that they might give him some of the fruit of the vineyard. But the
vinedressers beat him and sent him away empty-handed. Again, he sent
another servant; and they beat him also, treated him shamefully, and
sent him away empty-handed. And again, he sent a third; and they
wounded him also and cast him out. Then the owner of the vineyard said,
'What shall I do? I will send my beloved son. Probably they will
respect him when they see him.' But when the vinedressers saw him, they
reasoned among themselves, saying, 'This is the heir. Come, let us kill
him, that the inheritance may be ours.' So, they cast him out of the
vineyard and killed him. Therefore, what will the owner of the vineyard
do to them? He will come and destroy those vinedressers and give the
vineyard to others." And when they heard it they said, "Certainly not!"
Then He looked at them and said, "What then is this that is written:
'The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief
cornerstone'? Whoever falls on that stone will be broken; but on
whomever it falls, it will grind him to powder." And the chief priests
and the scribes that very hour sought to lay hands on Him, but they
feared the people--for they knew He had spoken this parable against
them. Luke 20:9-19
Therefore, the Jews sought all the more to kill Him, because He not
only broke the Sabbath, but also said that God was His Father, making
Himself equal with God. Then Jesus answered and said to them, "Most
assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He
sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like
manner. For the Father loves the Son and shows Him all things that He
Himself does; and He will show Him greater works than these, that you
may marvel. For as the Father raises the dead and gives life to them,
even so the Son gives life to whom He will. For the Father judges no
one, but has committed all judgment to the Son, that all should honor
the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son
does not honor the Father who sent Him. Most assuredly, I say to you,
he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting
life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into
life. Most assuredly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is,
when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God; and those who hear
will live. For as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the
Son to have life in Himself, and has given Him authority to execute
judgment also, because He is the Son of Man. Do not marvel at this; for
the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His
voice and come forth--those who have done good, to the resurrection of
life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of
condemnation. I can of Myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge; and My
judgment is righteous, because I do not seek My own will but the will
of the Father who sent Me. If I bear witness of Myself, My witness is
not true. There is another who bears witness of Me, and I know that the
witness which He witnesses of Me is true. You have sent to John, and he
has borne witness to the truth. Yet I do not receive testimony from
man, but I say these things that you may be saved. He was the burning
and shining lamp, and you were willing for a time to rejoice in his
light. But I have a greater witness than John's; for the works which
the Father has given Me to finish--the very works that I do--bear
witness of Me, that the Father has sent Me. And the Father Himself, who
sent Me, has testified of Me. You have neither heard His voice at any
time, nor seen His form. But you do not have His word abiding in you,
because whom He sent, Him you do not believe. You search the
Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are
they which testify of Me. But you are not willing to come to Me that
you may have life. John 5:18-40
