Pursue
God and Godliness
1)
Pursue God with your soul.
As the
deer pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul for You, O God. My soul
thirsts for God, for the living God. Psalms 42:1-2
O God,
You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs
for You in a dry and thirsty land where there is no water. Psalms 63:1
The
humble shall see this and be glad; And you who seek God, your hearts shall
live. Psalms 69:32
Seek
the LORD and His strength; Seek His face evermore! Psalms 105:4
Blessed
are those who keep His testimonies, who seek Him with the whole heart! Psalms
119:2
2)
Pursue the knowledge of God.
Come,
and let us return to the LORD; For He has torn, but He will heal us; He has
stricken, but He will bind us up. After two days He will revive us; On the
third day He will raise us up, that we may live in His sight. Let us know, let
us pursue the knowledge of the LORD. His going forth is established as the
morning; He will come to us like the rain, like the latter and former rain to
the earth. Hosea 6:1-3
Oh,
the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How
unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out! “For who has
known the mind of the LORD? Or who has become His counselor? Or who has first
given to Him, and it shall be repaid to him?” For of Him and through Him and to
Him are all things, to whom glory be forever. Amen. Romans 11:33-36
3)
Pursue God through faith in Jesus Christ.
What
shall we say then? That Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, have
attained to righteousness, even the righteousness of faith; but Israel,
pursuing the law of righteousness, has not attained to the law of
righteousness. Why? Because they did not seek it by faith, but as it were, by
the works of the law. Romans 9:30-32
But
without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must
believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
Hebrews 11:6
4)
Pursue love within the church.
“A new
commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that
you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if
you have love for one another.” John 13:34-35
Pursue
love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy. 1
Corinthians 14:1
5)
Pursue peace within society.
Therefore,
let us pursue the things which make for peace and the things by which one may
edify another. Romans 14:19
Pursue
peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord: looking
carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; Hebrews 12:14-15
6)
Pursue what is good within society.
Depart
from evil and do good; Seek peace and pursue it. Psalms 34:14
See
that no one renders evil for evil to anyone, but always pursue what is good
both for yourselves and for all. 1 Thessalonians 5:15
For “He
who would love life and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and
his lips from speaking deceit. Let him turn away from evil and do good; Let him
seek peace and pursue it. For the eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, and
His ears are open to their prayers; But the face of the LORD is against those
who do evil.” 1 Peter 3:10-12
7) Pursue
godliness.
But
you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness,
faith, love, patience, gentleness. 1 Timothy 6:11
Flee
also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those
who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. 2 Timothy 2:22
