False
Prophets Today
1) People should not be afraid of false
prophets.
But the prophet who presumes to speak a
word in My name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in
the name of other gods, that prophet shall die.’ And if you say in your
heart, ‘How shall we know the word which the Lord has not
spoken?’— when a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the
thing does not happen or come to pass, that is the thing which
the Lord has not spoken; the prophet has spoken
it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him. Deuteronomy 18:20-22
2) God completely destroyed Jerusalem due to
false prophets.
And the Lord said to me, “The
prophets prophesy lies in My name. I have not sent them, commanded them,
nor spoken to them; they prophesy to you a false vision, divination, a
worthless thing, and the deceit of their heart. Therefore, thus says
the Lord concerning the prophets who prophesy in My name, whom I did
not send, and who say, ‘Sword and famine shall not be in this land’ — ‘By
sword and famine those prophets shall be consumed! And the people to whom
they prophesy shall be cast out in the streets of Jerusalem because of the
famine and the sword; they will have no one to bury them—them nor their
wives, their sons nor their daughters—for I will pour their wickedness on
them.’” Jeremiah 14:14-16
3) There will be many false prophets and false messiahs in the last days.
“And then many will be offended, will betray
one another, and will hate one another. Then many false prophets will
rise up and deceive many. And because lawlessness will abound, the
love of many will grow cold.” Matthew 24:10-12
"For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs
and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. See, I have told
you beforehand." Matthew 24:24-25
4) False prophets plagued Israel as false
teachers plague the church today.
But there were also false prophets among the
people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly
bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought
them, and bring on themselves swift destruction. And many will
follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be
blasphemed. By covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words;
for a long time their judgment has not been idle, and
their destruction does not slumber. 2 Peter 2:1-3
5) True prophets ended with John the Baptist.
“The law and the prophets were until
John. Since that time the kingdom of God has been preached, and everyone is
pressing into it.” Luke 16:16
Paul, a bondservant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle,
separated to the gospel of God which He promised before through His
prophets in the Holy Scriptures, concerning His Son Jesus Christ our
Lord, who was born of the seed of David according to the flesh, and
declared to be the Son of God with power according to the Spirit of
holiness, by the resurrection from the dead. Romans 1:1-4
6) Prophets and Apostles do not exist today as the foundation was laid 2000 years ago.
But now
in Christ Jesus you who were once afar off are made near by the blood
of Christ. For He is our peace, He making us both one, and He has
broken down the middle wall of partition between us, having abolished
in His flesh the enmity (the Law of commandments contained in
ordinances) so that in Himself He might make the two into one new man,
making peace between them; and so that He might reconcile both to God
in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity in Himself. And He
came and preached peace to you who were afar off, and to those who were
near. For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father.
Now therefore you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow
citizens with the saints, and of the household of God, and are built
upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself
being the chief cornerstone, in whom every building having been fitly
framed together, grows into a holy sanctuary in the Lord; in whom you
also are built together for a dwelling place of God through the Spirit.
Ephesians 2:13-22
7) God the Father speaks to us through Jesus Christ not
prophets today.
God, who at various times and in
various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in
these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir
of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; who being the
brightness of His glory and the express image of His person,
and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He
had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand
of the Majesty on high, having become so much better than the angels,
as He has by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they. Hebrews
1:1-4
Note: Weather prediction is not New Covenant preaching.
And in these days prophets came from Jerusalem to Antioch. Then
one of them, named Agabus, stood up and showed by the Spirit that there
was going to be a great famine throughout all the world, which also happened in
the days of Claudius Caesar. Acts 11:27-28
Then He also said to the multitudes, “Whenever you see a
cloud rising out of the west, immediately you say, ‘A shower is coming’; and so it is. And when you see the south wind
blow, you say, ‘There will be hot weather’; and there is. Hypocrites! You
can discern the face of the sky and of the earth, but how is it you
do not discern this time?” Luke 12:54-56
For Jews request a sign, and Greeks
seek after wisdom; but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness, but to those
who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 1
Corinthians 1:22-24
