Light of the World
Note: God is the source of life and light.
For with You is the fountain of life; In Your light we see light. Oh,
continue Your lovingkindness to those who know You, and Your
righteousness to the upright in heart. Psalm 36:9-10
Bless the Lord, O my soul! O Lord my God, You are very great: You are
clothed with honor and majesty, Who cover Yourself with light as with a
garment, Who stretch out the heavens like a curtain. Psalm 104:1-2
Therefore, I will look to the Lord; I will wait for the God of my
salvation; My God will hear me. Do not rejoice over me, my enemy; When
I fall, I will arise; When I sit in darkness, the Lord will be a light
to me. Micah 7:7-8
I urge you in the sight of God who gives life to all things, and before
Christ Jesus who witnessed the good confession before Pontius Pilate,
that you keep this commandment without spot, blameless until our Lord
Jesus Christ's appearing, which He will manifest in His own time, He
who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of
lords, who alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light,
whom no man has seen or can see, to whom be honor and everlasting
power. Amen. 1 Timothy 6:13-16
Note: The word of God is light for believers.
How sweet are Your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!
Through Your precepts I get understanding; Therefore, I hate every
false way. Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Psalm
119:103-105
Your testimonies are wonderful; Therefore, my soul keeps them. The
entrance of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the
simple. Psalm 119:129-130
Many people shall come and say, "Come, and let us go up to the mountain
of the Lord, To the house of the God of Jacob; He will teach us His
ways, and we shall walk in His paths." For out of Zion shall go forth
the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. He shall judge
between the nations and rebuke many people; They shall beat their
swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; Nation
shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war
anymore. O house of Jacob, come and let us walk in the light of the
Lord. Isaiah 2:3-5
But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are
perishing, whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not
believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is
the image of God, should shine on them. For we do not preach ourselves,
but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your bondservants for Jesus'
sake. For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness,
who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the
glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. 2 Corinthians 4:3-6
And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed
as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the
morning star rises in your hearts; knowing this first, that no prophecy
of Scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came
by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the
Holy Spirit. 2 Peter 1:19-21
This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you,
that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. If we say that we
have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not
practice the truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light,
we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His
Son cleanses us from all sin. 1 John 1:5-7
Again, a new commandment I write to you, which thing is true in Him and
in you, because the darkness is passing away, and the true light is
already shining. He who says he is in the light, and hates his brother,
is in darkness until now. He who loves his brother abides in the light,
and there is no cause for stumbling in him. But he who hates his
brother is in darkness and walks in darkness, and does not know where
he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes. 1 John 2:8-11
Note: Jesus Christ is the light of the world.
Nevertheless, the gloom will not be upon her who is distressed, as when
at first He lightly esteemed The land of Zebulun and the land of
Naphtali, And afterward more heavily oppressed her, By the way of the
sea, beyond the Jordan, In Galilee of the Gentiles. The people who
walked in darkness Have seen a great light; Those who dwelt in the land
of the shadow of death, upon them a light has shined. Isaiah 9:1-2
"The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, by the way of the sea,
beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles: The people who sat in
darkness have seen a great light, and upon those who sat in the region
and shadow of death Light has dawned." Matthew 4:15-16
For my eyes have seen Your salvation which You have prepared before the
face of all peoples, a light to bring revelation to the Gentiles, and
the glory of Your people Israel." Luke 2:30-32
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word
was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through
Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life,
and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the
darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. John 1:1-5
There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. This man came for a
witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might
believe. He was not that Light but was sent to bear witness of that
Light. That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming
into the world. John 1:6-9
He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is
condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only
begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that the light has
come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because
their deeds were evil. For everyone practicing evil hates the light and
does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. But he
who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly
seen, that they have been done in God." John 3:18-21
Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, "I am the light of the world.
He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness but have the light of
life." John 8:12
Then Jesus said to them, "A little while longer the light is with you.
Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you; he who walks
in darkness does not know where he is going. While you have the light,
believe in the light, that you may become sons of light." These things
Jesus spoke, and departed, and was hidden from them. John 12:35-36
Then Jesus cried out and said, "He who believes in Me, believes not in
Me but in Him who sent Me. And he who sees Me sees Him who sent Me. I
have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should
not abide in darkness. John 12:44-46
Now it happened, as I journeyed and came near Damascus at about noon,
suddenly a great light from heaven shone around me. And I fell to the
ground and heard a voice saying to me, 'Saul, Saul, why are you
persecuting Me?' So, I answered, 'Who are You, Lord?' And He said to
me, 'I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom you are persecuting.' And those who
were with me indeed saw the light and were afraid, but they did not
hear the voice of Him who spoke to me. So, I said, 'What shall I do,
Lord?' And the Lord said to me, 'Arise and go into Damascus, and there
you will be told all things which are appointed for you to do.' And
since I could not see for the glory of that light, being led by the
hand of those who were with me, I came into Damascus. Acts 22:6-11
"While thus occupied, as I journeyed to Damascus with authority and
commission from the chief priests, at midday, O king, along the road I
saw a light from heaven, brighter than the sun, shining around me and
those who journeyed with me. And when we all had fallen to the ground,
I heard a voice speaking to me and saying in the Hebrew language,
'Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me? It is hard for you to kick
against the goads.' So, I said, 'Who are You, Lord?' And He said, 'I am
Jesus, whom you are persecuting. But rise and stand on your feet; for I
have appeared to you for this purpose, to make you a minister and a
witness both of the things which you have seen and of the things which
I will yet reveal to you. I will deliver you from the Jewish people, as
well as from the Gentiles, to whom I now send you, to open their eyes,
in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of
Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an
inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.'” Acts
26:12-18
Note: Believers are a light to a lost world.
You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be
hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a
lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your
light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and
glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:14-16
For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as
children of light (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness,
righteousness, and truth), finding out what is acceptable to the Lord.
And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but
rather expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of those things
which are done by them in secret. But all things that are exposed are
made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light.
Therefore, He says: "Awake, you who sleep, arise from the dead, and
Christ will give you light." Ephesians 5:8-14
Do
everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become
blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and
crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the
sky as you hold firmly to the word of life. And then I will be able to
boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor in vain.
Philippians 2:14-16
But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need
that I should write to you. For you yourselves know perfectly that the
day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. For when they say,
"Peace and safety!" then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor
pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape. But you,
brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as
a thief. You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of
the night nor of darkness. Therefore, let us not sleep, as others do,
but let us watch and be sober. For those who sleep, sleep at night, and
those who get drunk are drunk at night. But let us who are of the day
be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet
the hope of salvation. For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to
obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us, that
whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him. 1
Thessalonians 5:1-10
But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His
own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called
you out of darkness into His marvelous light; who once were not a
people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but
now have obtained mercy. 1 Peter 2:9-10
Note: Believers inheritance is in the light of God.
"The sun shall no longer be your light by day, nor for brightness shall
the moon give light to you; But the Lord will be to you an everlasting
light, and your God your glory. Your sun shall no longer go down, nor
shall your moon withdraw itself; For the Lord will be your everlasting
light, and the days of your mourning shall be ended.” Isaiah 60:19-20
For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to
pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of
His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; that you may walk
worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good
work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all
might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and
longsuffering with joy; giving thanks to the Father who has qualified
us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light. He
has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the
kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His
blood, the forgiveness of sins. Colossians 1:9-14
But I saw no temple in it, for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are
its temple. The city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in
it, for the glory of God illuminated it. The Lamb is its light. And the
nations of those who are saved shall walk in its light, and the kings
of the earth bring their glory and honor into it. Revelation 21:22-24
And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal,
proceeding from the throne of God and of the Lamb. In the middle of its
street, and on either side of the river, was the tree of life, which
bore twelve fruits, each tree yielding its fruit every month. The
leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. And there shall
be no more curse, but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it,
and His servants shall serve Him. They shall see His face, and His name
shall be on their foreheads. There shall be no night there: They need
no lamp nor light of the sun, for the Lord God gives them light. And
they shall reign forever and ever. Revelation 22:1-5
