First Khutbah
Allaah says that which translates to:
“Muhammad is the Messenger of
Allaah; and those with him are forceful against the disbelievers, merciful among
themselves. You see them bowing and prostrating (in prayer), seeking bounty from
Allaah and (his) pleasure. Their mark (i.e. sign) is on their faces (i.e.
foreheads) from the trace of prostration. That is their description in the
Torah. And their description in the Gospel is as a plant which produces its
offshoots and strengthens them so they grow firm and stand upon their stalks,
delighting the sowers – so that He (i.e. Allaah) may enrage by them the
disbelievers. Allaah has promised those who believe and do righteous deeds among
them forgiveness and a great reward” (Al-Fath: 29).
O Muslims! Islaam lays out, for those
who believe in it, great principles that strengthen the bond between Muslims all
around the world, preserves their unity and protects their dignity. Among these
principles is to have concern about the affairs and anxieties of other
Muslims.
Being concerned is not an emotional
reaction whereby one only expresses sympathetic feelings without any practical
constructive steps that reflect real concern. In other words, it is not enough
that a Muslim feels sorrow and sheds tears of regret over the afflictions of
other Muslims. A Muslim must strongly condemn the crime and destruction
afflicting his fellow Muslims and support them physically and spiritually in
order to release them from the nightmare they live through - until they retrieve
their rights. This would make the afflicted Muslims feel that they are supported
by those who truly fulfil the rights of brotherhood and practically implement
the words of the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam when he said, as narrated by
Abu-Moosa, may Allaah be pleased with him: “The example of the unity
of the Muslims is like the example of a single structure, its parts
strengthening and supporting one another” (Bukhaari & Muslim).
O Muslims! If expressing sympathetic feelings alone are not enough, then what is the status of those who abandon their brothers even though they are capable of supporting them? How can they simply watch while these disasters befall their brothers without trying to repulse the aggression? Wouldn’t they be held accountable for having such callous feelings and included in the saying of the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam: “One should not stand watching people oppressing and beating a person, otherwise he would be cursed for not defending him (the oppressed)” (Tabaraani & Abu Nu’aym. Al-Albaani ruled that this is a weak Hadeeth).
‘Beating’ here includes all types of
terrorism and bombardment; it also includes the different methods of human
torture.
One of the principles that Islaam stresses is that a Muslim must not accept humiliation. A Muslim should never tolerate being enslaved to other humans because Allaah promised him support and has entrusted him to convey His message. Allaah says that which translates to: “… And indeed, Allaah is with the doers of good.”(Al-‘Ankaboot: 69). Allaah also honoured him as he says that which translates to: “So do not weaken and do not grieve, and you will be superior if you are (true) believers.” (Aal-‘Imraan: 139). And also: “And to Allaah belongs (all) honour, and to His Messenger, and to the believers, but the hypocrites do not know.” (Al-Munaafiqoon: 8)
Allaah reserved provision and death in His hands so that the Muslims would not humble themselves to other creatures, as He says that which translates to: “… So seek from Allaah provision and worship Him and be grateful to Him. To Him you will be returned.” (Al-‘Ankaboot: 17). And also, “Indeed it is Allaah who is the (continual) Provider, the possessor of firm strength” (Adh-Dhaariyaat: 58).
O believers! People are only a means to deliver whatever Allaah decreed for each slave from provision, rank, position or any other worldly benefit. No one will die without consuming all of what was decreed for him, as narrated by Ibn Mas’ood, may Allaah be pleased with him, that the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said, “I was inspired that no soul would die until it consumes all its provisions and time” (Tabaraani & Haakim).
Therefore, one who accepts humiliation despite Allaah granting him honour; and submits to other than Allaah; and lives his life in slavery to other humans - falls into the saying of the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam when he said: “Anyone who accepts humiliation without being forced to do that is not from me” (Tabaraani & Abu Nu’aim. Al-Albani ruled that this is a weak Hadeeth).
O Muslims! Fear Allaah and abide by all the principles that Islaam has set for you; Be sincere in your loyalty and support to your brothers in Islaam; Seek the honour and might which Allaah wants the believers to have, so that you can be among those whom Allaah praised in His Book in His saying which translates to: “But those who have avoided taghoot, lest they worship it, and turned back to Allaah – for them are good tidings. So give good tidings to My servants. Who listen to speech and follow the best of it. Those are the ones Allaah has guided, and those are people of understanding.” (Az-Zumar: 17-18)
One of the companions entered into the palace of one of the great leaders of the Persians during the Islamic conquest. The leader asked him, “What brings you to us”, the companion answered courageously and with pride: “Allaah sent us to rescue Whomever He wants from being slaves to other humans to being slaves to Him; and to get them out of their hardships of life to the simplicity and happiness of this life and the Hereafter; and to deliver them from the injustice of other religions to the justice of Islaam”.
O believers! One of the principles which
Islaam guides its followers to assume is perseverance and endurance, because it
is the provision of the Muslim at the time of adversity and hardship. It brings
tranquillity and makes a Muslim content with the decree of Allaah. ‘Umar Ibn
Al-Khattaab, may Allaah be pleased with him, said: “We experienced the
best of life when we endured and persevered”. ’Ali ibn Abi Taalib, may Allah
be pleased with him, said: “The relationship between perseverance and
faith is like the relationship between the head and the body”… until he
said, “The faith of he who does not persevere is incomplete”.
Allaah praised perseverance in His Book
ninety times and mentioned it in conjunction with righteous deeds (which bring
the slave closer to Him) as being one of the paths to achieving good and
attaining success. Allaah says that which translates to: “O you who have
believed, seek help through patience and prayer. Indeed Allaah is with the
patient”
(Al-Baqarah: 153) and
also “And whoever is patient and forgives
– indeed, that is of the matters (requiring)
determination”
(Ash-Shooraa: 43).
The greatest events that require patience and persevere are disasters and calamities. This was the way of the Messengers of Allaah, peace be upon them all, who were determination and dedicated. They faced much harm while calling people to Allaah and yet they were the very epitome of endurance and perseverance. The Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam was harmed to an unbearable level and yet he persevered and endured. Consequently, he overcame the transgressors.
Muslims have been undergoing trials and hardships throughout history. This is especially the case for the Palestinian people who went through great hardships affecting their persons, wealth, homes and livelihoods. They were tested by the worst and most evil of creatures who neither respect kinship nor covenants and who seek honour and might; but they will never attain this because they are a people who drew on themselves the wrath of Allaah and whom Allaah humiliated and put over them ignominy and destruction.
We are in dire need to continue our struggle and to equip ourselves with perseverance and endurance, because they are the foundations that give light to the hearts; and are the pillars of victory. There will be no victory for Jihaad without perseverance and endurance.
Second Khutbah
What is happening to the Palestinian people represents the worst type of oppression, transgression and tyranny that could happen to any nation. The shocking thing though, is that the oppressor is succeeding in covering up his crimes behind the veil of ‘self-defence’ and ‘the protection of culture’. His tyranny manifests itself in the form of seizing people’s properties and attacking the sacred places; Al-Aqsaa; the first Qiblah, the second Masjid ever built and the third in rank of virtue after the two Harams of Makkah and Madinah. People’s blood on this blessed land is being spilt, people are being murdered and their bodies mutilated.
The land itself is attacked day and night. They destroy homes and leave its owners homeless suffering in the severely cold weather, sleeping on the hard ground and having no cover except the clouds in the sky. All they can do is raise their hands to the sky asking The All-Powerful to terminate the aggression which they and their fellow Muslims everywhere face.
The aggressors also chop down fruitful trees that decorate and beautify the area with its flowers and leaves.
On top of this, there is a siege around the cities and villages, the intensity of which has even astonished some of the enemies of Islaam. Furthermore, the demolishing of various institutions has taken place in order to destroy the infrastructure, which results in the dissolving of the Palestinian identity. All of this happens while the international community and human rights organizations are looking on and the Arabs and Muslims are in shameful silence.
O Muslims! Islamically, Palestine is a land of faith and that is why the Muslims were encouraged to station themselves there and guard it as well as the rest of Bilaad Ash-Shaam (which comprises of Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine, parts of Iraq and parts of Saudi Arabia). Muslims must always remember that in reality, this is a battle between belief and disbelief, as in the Hadeeth narrated by Maymoonah Bint Sa’d when she asked the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam about Jerusalem, he said: “It is the land where mankind be resurrected and gathered together, seek Salaah in it (i.e. Masjid Al-Aqsaa) because each Salaah in it counts as one thousand Salaah in other Masjids” she asked: ‘What if one cannot reach it, or finds difficulty reaching it?’ he replied, “Let them send oil to be used in its lanterns as a gift, because the one who sends a gift to it is just like one who prayed in it” in another narration he said, “One Salaah in it equals five hundred Salaah elsewhere” (Ahmad & Ibn Maajah. Al- Albaani ruled that this is a weak Hadeeth)
Indeed the issue of Palestine is a vital one for all Arabs and Muslims. It is their duty to shoulder the responsibility of this historical and doctrinal Islamic matter. Muslims will be questioned about all their deeds and the issues that they were faced with in general - and the issue of Palestine in particular. It is a great trust and is an inseparable part of the Muslim land which none has the right to surrender – not even the tiniest portion of it. Muslims are obliged to defend it with all their power. They must regard defending it and its people an incumbent Islamic obligation. Every Muslim will be questioned about his efforts and role regarding this on the Day of Judgment, the day when neither wealth nor children will avail, when only he who comes with a sound and clean heart (clean from polytheism and hypocrisy) will be successful.
O Muslims! It is a great sin to allow
even a hand-span of the Muslims land to be occupied by the enemies of Islaam, or
that their women, wealth or sacred places be attacked. This being the case, then
how great a sin is it that the entire land of Palestine is occupied
O you who have stationed yourselves to protect this land! Victory is for the believers, victory is for Islaam; Palestine and Al-Aqsaa will be recaptured only when the UmmahJihaad - a blessed land. Angels will spread their wings over it; the blessed blood of martyrs will always be spilt on it; The Muslim Ummah will conquer it when Allaah grants victory for His pious slaves; victory will come when Muslims become truthful and sincere to Allaah, rely only on Him fully and supplicate to Him. It will come when we abandon what some people are uttering, that: ‘The only way to salvation is to beg the USA’. Allaah says that which translates as: “And (you will obtain) another (favour) that you love – victory from Allaah and an imminent conquest; and give good tidings to the believers.” (As-Saff: 13).
