The Anti-Christ or False Messiah
1) The anti-Christ arises from a political confederacy with satanic power.
Then
I stood on the sand of the sea. And I saw a beast rising up out of the
sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and on his horns ten crowns, and
on his heads a blasphemous name. Now the beast which I saw was like a
leopard, his feet were like the feet of a bear, and his mouth like the
mouth of a lion. The dragon gave him his power, his throne, and great
authority. Revelation 13:1-2.
Note: The prophet Daniel had a similar vision.
"After
this I saw in the night visions, and behold, a fourth beast, dreadful
and terrible, exceedingly strong. It had huge iron teeth; it was
devouring, breaking in pieces, and trampling the residue with its feet.
It was different from all the beasts that were before it, and it had
ten horns. I was considering the horns, and there was another horn, a
little one, coming up among them, before whom three of the first horns
were plucked out by the roots. And there, in this horn, were eyes like
the eyes of a man, and a mouth speaking pompous words.” Daniel 7:7-8.
2) The anti-Christ will survive an assassination attempt.
And
I saw one of his heads as if it had been mortally wounded, and his
deadly wound was healed. And all the world marveled and followed the
beast. Revelation 13:3.
3) The anti-Christ will be worshiped by deluded people in a temple.
So
they worshiped the dragon who gave authority to the beast; and they
worshiped the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast? Who is able to
make war with him?” Revelation 13:4.
Note: The Apostle Paul wrote that the anti-Christ will be worshiped as God in a rebuilt temple.
Let
no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the
falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of
perdition, who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God
or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God,
showing himself that he is God. 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4.
4) The anti-Christ will rule for 3 and a half years.
And
he was given a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies, and he was
given authority to continue for forty-two months. Revelation 13:5.
Note: The prophet Daniel had a similar vision.
The
ten horns are ten kings who shall arise from this kingdom. And another
shall rise after them; He shall be different from the first ones, and
shall subdue three kings. He shall speak pompous words against the Most
High, shall persecute the saints of the Most High, and shall intend to
change times and law. Then the saints shall be given into his hand for
a time and times and half a time. Daniel 7:24-25.
5) The anti-Christ will boast against heaven, Jesus Christ, and Christians.
Then
he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme His name,
His tabernacle, and those who dwell in heaven. Revelation 13:6.
Note: The prophet Daniel had a similar vision.
"Through
his cunning he shall cause deceit to prosper under his rule; And he
shall exalt himself in his heart. He shall destroy many in their
prosperity. He shall even rise against the Prince of princes; But he
shall be broken without human means.” Daniel 8:25.
6) The anti-Christ will become the world ruler.
It
was granted to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them.
And authority was given him over every tribe, tongue, and nation.
Revelation 13:7.
7) The anti-Christ will be worshipped by everyone who will inherit eternal death.
All
who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been
written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of
the world. Revelation 13:8.
8) A world religious leader who will cause people to worship the anti-Christ.
Then
I saw another beast coming up out of the earth, and he had two horns
like a lamb and spoke like a dragon. And he exercises all the authority
of the first beast in his presence, and causes the earth and those who
dwell in it to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.
Revelation 13:11-12.
9) The world religious leader will create an idol of the anti-Christ.
He
performs great signs, so that he even makes fire come down from heaven
on the earth in the sight of men. And he deceives those who dwell on
the earth by those signs which he was granted to do in the sight of the
beast, telling those who dwell on the earth to make an image to the
beast who was wounded by the sword and lived. Revelation 13:13-14.
Note: The Apostle Paul wrote about deluded people and the anti-Christ.
The
coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with
all power, signs, and lying wonders, and with all unrighteous deception
among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the
truth, that they might be saved. And for this reason God will send them
strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, that they all may be
condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in
unrighteousness. 2 Thessalonians 2:9-12.
10) Everyone who does not worship the idol of the anti-Christ will be killed.
He
was granted power to give breath to the image of the beast, that the
image of the beast should both speak and cause as many as would not
worship the image of the beast to be killed. Revelation 13:15.
Note: The anti-Christ will demand worship in the middle of his reign.
“Then
he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week; But in the middle
of the week he shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the
wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate, even until the
consummation, which is determined, is poured out on the desolate.”
Daniel 9:27.
11) There will be no economic freedom under the anti-Christ.
He
causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to
receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, and that no
one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the
beast, or the number of his name. Revelation 13:16-17.
12) The wrath of God falls on everyone who has the identity of the anti-Christ.
Then
a third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, “If anyone
worships the beast and his image, and receives his mark on his forehead
or on his hand, he himself shall also drink of the wine of the wrath of
God, which is poured out full strength into the cup of His indignation.
He shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the
holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. And the smoke of their
torment ascends forever and ever; and they have no rest day or night,
who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of
his name.” Revelation 14:9-11.
13) The anti-Christ will gather all armies together in the Middle East.
Then
the sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates, and
its water was dried up, so that the way of the kings from the east
might be prepared. And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs coming
out of the mouth of the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast, and out
of the mouth of the false prophet. For they are spirits of demons,
performing signs, which go out to the kings of the earth and of the
whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God
Almighty. Revelation 16:12-14.
14) Jesus Christ will destroy the anti-Christ and his allies.
And
I saw the beast, the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered
together to make war against Him who sat on the horse and against His
army. Then the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who
worked signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who received
the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image. These two were
cast alive into the lake of fire burning with brimstone. And the rest
were killed with the sword which proceeded from the mouth of Him who
sat on the horse. And all the birds were filled with their flesh.
Revelation 19:19-21.
Note: The Apostle Paul wrote about the destruction of the anti-Christ.
And
then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with
the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming.
2 Thessalonians 2:8
Note: The prophet Daniel had a similar vision.
"I
watched then because of the sound of the pompous words which the horn
was speaking; I watched till the beast was slain, and its body
destroyed and given to the burning flame." Daniel 7:11
Note: The prophet Isaiah had a similar vision.
"And
they shall go forth and look upon the corpses of the men who have
transgressed against Me. For their worm does not die, and their fire is
not quenched. They shall be an abhorrence to all flesh. " Isaiah
66:24.
15) Summary of the reign of the anti-Christ or false messiah.
Note: The prophet Daniel prophesied extensively about the anti-Christ.
"So
he shall return and show regard for those who forsake the holy
covenant. And forces shall be mustered by him, and they shall defile
the sanctuary fortress; then they shall take away the daily sacrifices,
and place there the abomination of desolation. Those who do wickedly
against the covenant he shall corrupt with flattery; but the people who
know their God shall be strong, and carry out great exploits. And those
of the people who understand shall instruct many; yet for many days
they shall fall by sword and flame, by captivity and plundering. Now
when they fall, they shall be aided with a little help; but many shall
join with them by intrigue. And some of those of understanding shall
fall, to refine them, purify them, and make them white, until the time
of the end; because it is still for the appointed time. "Then the king
shall do according to his own will: he shall exalt and magnify himself
above every god, shall speak blasphemies against the God of gods, and
shall prosper till the wrath has been accomplished; for what has been
determined shall be done. He shall regard neither the God of his
fathers nor the desire of women, nor regard any god; for he shall exalt
himself above them all. But in their place he shall honor a god of
fortresses; and a god which his fathers did not know he shall honor
with gold and silver, with precious stones and pleasant things. Thus he
shall act against the strongest fortresses with a foreign god, which he
shall acknowledge, and advance its glory; and he shall cause them to
rule over many, and divide the land for gain. Daniel 11:30-39.
Note: The words of Jesus Christ about the anti-Christ will happen.
"Therefore
when you see the ‘abomination of desolation,' spoken of by Daniel the
prophet, standing in the holy place" (whoever reads, let him
understand),“then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. Let
him who is on the housetop not go down to take anything out of his
house. And let him who is in the field not go back to get his clothes.
But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies
in those days! And pray that your flight may not be in winter or on the
Sabbath. For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been
since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall
be. And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but
for the elect’s sake those days will be shortened. Then if anyone says
to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!' or ‘There!’ do not believe it. For
false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and
wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. See, I have told you
beforehand. Therefore if they say to you, ‘Look, He is in the desert!’
do not go out; or ‘Look, He is in the inner rooms!’ do not believe it.
For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west, so
also will the coming of the Son of Man be. For wherever the carcass is,
there the eagles will be gathered together. Immediately after the
tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will
not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of
the heavens will be shaken. Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear
in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they
will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and
great glory. And He will send His angels with a great sound of a
trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds,
from one end of heaven to the other. Now learn this parable from
the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts forth
leaves, you know that summer is near. So you also, when you see all
these things, know that it is near-at the doors! Assuredly, I say to
you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things
take place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no
means pass away.” Matthew 24:15-35.
16) Sadly, Jews are looking for and will find a non-divine false messiah.
Judaism’s
idea of the messiah differs substantially from the Christian idea of
the Messiah. In Orthodox Judaism, the messiah's task is to bring in the
Messianic Age, a one-time event, and a presumed messiah who is killed
before completing the task (i.e. compelling all of Israel to walk in
the way of Torah, repairing the breaches in observance, fighting the
wars of God, building the Temple in its place, gathering in the
dispersed exiles of Israel) is not the messiah. Maimonides states, "But
if he did not succeed in all this or was killed, he is definitely not
the Moshiach promised in the Torah... and God only appointed him in
order to test the masses."
Jews believe that the messiah will fulfill the messianic prophecies of
the prophets Isaiah and Ezekiel. According to Isaiah, the messiah will
be a paternal descendant of King David. He is expected to return the
Jews to their homeland and rebuild the Temple, reign as King, and usher
in an era of peace and understanding where “the knowledge of God” fills
the earth, leading the nations to “end up recognizing the wrongs they
did to Israel”. Ezekiel states the messiah will redeem the Jews.
The
Jewish view of Jesus is influenced by the fact that Jesus lived while
the Second Temple was standing, and not while the Jews were exiled. He
never reigned as King, and there was no subsequent era of peace or
great knowledge. Jesus died without completing or even accomplishing
part of any of the messianic tasks, instead promising a Second Coming.
Rather than being redeemed, the Jews were subsequently exiled from
Israel, and the temple was destroyed years later and not rebuilt. These
discrepancies were noted by Jewish scholars who were contemporaries of
Jesus, as later pointed out by Nahmanides, who in 1263 observed that
Jesus was rejected as the messiah by the rabbis of his time.
Moreover,
Judaism sees Christian claims that Jesus is the textual messiah of the
Hebrew Bible as being based on mistranslations, with the idea that
Jesus did not fulfill any of the Jewish Messiah qualifications.
As for the synoptic Jesus’ relationship with Jewish law, E.P. Sanders
argues that “The Synoptic Jesus lived as a law-abiding Jew” and that
“What he wanted, what he said, and what he did, finally led to his
execution, but to think of the conflict being determined by differences
over various points of the law is to misconceive it.” Wikipedia
Encyclopedia.
