CHRISTIAN BELIEFS ABOUT DEATH
1) Non-Christians will hate family members who are Christians.
“Now brother will deliver up brother to death, and a father his child;
and children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put to
death. And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake.” Matthew
10:21-22
“Now brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; and
children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put to
death. And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake.” Mark 13:12-13
“You will be betrayed even by parents and brothers, relatives and
friends; and they will put some of you to death. And you will be hated
by all for My name’s sake.” Luke 21:16-17
2) Whoever believes in God and the word of Jesus Christ will live again after death.
“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him
who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but
has passed from death into life. Most assuredly, I say to you, the hour
is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of
God; and those who hear will live.” John 5:24-25
3) Ungodly evil people are debased and deserve death.
And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God
gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not
fitting; being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality,
wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife,
deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, backbiters, haters of
God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to
parents, undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving,
unmerciful; who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who
practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but
also approve of those who practice them. Romans 1:28-32
4) Adam’s sin was passed on to all humans resulting in death.
Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death
through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned— (For
until the law sin was in the world, but sin is not imputed when there
is no law. Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over
those who had not sinned according to the likeness of the transgression
of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come. Romans 5:12-14
5) Through the death of Jesus Christ life after death is available.
But the free gift is not like the offense. For if by the one man’s
offense many died, much more the grace of God and the gift by the grace
of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abounded to many. And the gift is not
like that which came through the one who sinned. For the judgment which
came from one offense resulted in condemnation, but the free gift which
came from many offenses resulted in justification. For if by the one
man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more those who
receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign
in life through the One, Jesus Christ.) Romans 5:15-17
6) Life after death is obtained through faith in Jesus Christ.
But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being
witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, even the righteousness of God,
through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. For there
is no difference; for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of
God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is
in Christ Jesus, whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood,
through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His
forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously
committed, to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that
He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.
Romans 3:21-26
7) Death will not separate people from the love of God in Jesus Christ.
For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor
principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor
height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to
separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:38-39
8) Christians will sincerely remember the death of Jesus Christ for their sins.
For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that
the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread;
and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “Take, eat; this is
My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” In the
same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the
new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in
remembrance of Me.” For as often as you eat this bread and drink this
cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes. Therefore whoever
eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner
will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. But let a man examine
himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup. For he
who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to
himself, not discerning the Lord’s body.1 Corinthians 11:23-29
9) The second death for non-believers occurs at the judgment seat of God.
Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face
the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for
them. And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God,
and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book
of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the
things which were written in the books. The sea gave up the dead who
were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them.
And they were judged, each one according to his works. Then Death and
Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And
anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of
fire. Revelation 20:11-15
10) Eternal life after death for believers who are overcomers will be with a loving God.
And He said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the
Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life
freely to him who thirsts. He who overcomes shall inherit all things,
and I will be his God and he shall be My son. But the cowardly,
unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers,
idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns
with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.” Revelation 21:6-8
Note: Do you want to avoid the second death?
Conclusion: Whoever believes
that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves Him who
begot also loves him who is begotten of Him. By this we know that we
love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments.
For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His
commandments are not burdensome. For whatever is born of God overcomes
the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our
faith. Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that
Jesus is the Son of God? 1 John 5:1-5
