MORMON CREATION

Create defined: to bring into existence. Webster's Dictionary.

Mormons are taught that matter is eternal and creation means formation.

The scriptures use the words "organize" and "form" (1) when discussing the Creation (Abraham 4:1, 12, 15, 25, 30). The earth was created (2) or formed of imperishable substance, for the revelations tell us that "the elements are eternal" (3) (D&C 93:33). (4) Matter already existed, but it was "without form, and void" (see Genesis 1:2; Moses 2:2). That word beginning applies only if create is defined as form or organize. There was no beginning and there shall be no end to matter. This is also said of intelligence, (5) that spiritual part of man. "Intelligence, or the light of truth, was not created or made, (6) neither indeed can be" (D&C 93:29). (7) Cheesman, Paul R., Monte S. Nyman, and Charles D. Tate, Jr., eds. Book of Mormon Symposium Series. Provo, Utah: Religious Studies Center, Brigham Young University, 1988-1995.

1) The Hebrew word for formation from existing elements is "yatsar."

Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.

2) The Hebrew word for absolute creation from nothing is "bara'."

Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

3) Matter is not eternal or macro evolutionary. First "bara" then "yatsar."

Isaiah 45:18 For thus says the LORD, Who created (bara') the heavens, Who is God, Who formed (yatsar) the earth and made it, Who has established it, Who did not create (bara') it in vain, Who formed (yatsar) it to be inhabited: "I am the LORD, and there is no other."

4) Mormons equate man with God.

Doctrines and Covenants 93:33 For man is spirit. The elements are eternal, and spirit and element, inseparably connected, receive a fulness of joy;

Note: Mormons do not worship God in spirit or in truth.

John 4:24 "God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth."

5) Mormons forget that God gives people wisdom.

Ezra 7:25 And you, Ezra, according to your God-given wisdom, set magistrates and judges who may judge all the people who are in the region beyond the River, all such as know the laws of your God; and teach those who do not know them.

6) Mankind was not eternally in the past but was created.

Psalm 102:18 This will be written for the generation to come, that a people yet to be created may praise the LORD.

7) Mormons equate man with God.

Doctrines and Covenants 93:29 Man was also in the beginning with God. Intelligence, or the light of truth, was not created or made, neither indeed can be.

Note: Mormons do not worship God in spirit or in truth.

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
