Abominations to God
Note: Idols are an abomination to God.
You shall burn the carved images of their gods with fire; you shall not
covet the silver or gold that is on them, nor take it for yourselves,
lest you be snared by it; for it is an abomination to the Lord your
God. Nor shall you bring an abomination into your house, lest you be
doomed to destruction like it. You shall utterly detest it and utterly
abhor it, for it is an accursed thing. Deuteronomy 7:25-26
For it was so, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned his heart
after other gods; and his heart was not loyal to the Lord his God, as
was the heart of his father David. For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the
goddess of the Sidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the
Ammonites. Solomon did evil in the sight of the Lord, and did not fully
follow the Lord, as did his father David. Then Solomon built a high
place for Chemosh the abomination of Moab, on the hill that is east of
Jerusalem, and for Molech the abomination of the people of Ammon. And
he did likewise for all his foreign wives, who burned incense and
sacrificed to their gods. 1 Kings 11:4-8
Then it shall be for a man to burn, for he will take some of it and
warm himself; Yes, he kindles it and bakes bread; Indeed, he makes a
god and worships it; He makes it a carved image, and falls down to it.
He burns half of it in the fire; With this half he eats meat; He roasts
a roast and is satisfied. He even warms himself and says, "Ah! I am
warm, I have seen the fire." And the rest of it he makes into a god,
His carved image. He falls down before it and worships it, prays to it
and says, "Deliver me, for you are my god!" They do not know nor
understand; For He has shut their eyes, so that they cannot see, and
their hearts, so that they cannot understand. And no one considers in
his heart, nor is there knowledge nor understanding to say, "I have
burned half of it in the fire, Yes, I have also baked bread on its
coals; I have roasted meat and eaten it; And shall I make the rest of
it an abomination? Shall I fall down before a block of wood?" Isaiah
44:15-19
Hear the word of the Lord, O house of Jacob and all the families of the
house of Israel. Thus says the Lord: "What injustice have your fathers
found in Me, that they have gone far from Me, have followed idols, and
have become idolaters? Neither did they say, 'Where is the Lord, Who
brought us up out of the land of Egypt, Who led us through the
wilderness, through a land of deserts and pits, through a land of
drought and the shadow of death, through a land that no one crossed and
where no one dwelt?' I brought you into a bountiful country, to eat its
fruit and its goodness. But when you entered, you defiled My land and
made My heritage an abomination. Jeremiah 2:4-7
Solution: Avoid idols.
Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen. 1 John 5:21
Note: Serving false gods is an abomination to God.
"When the Lord your God cuts off from before you the nations which you
go to dispossess, and you displace them and dwell in their land, take
heed to yourself that you are not ensnared to follow them, after they
are destroyed from before you, and that you do not inquire after their
gods, saying, 'How did these nations serve their gods? I also will do
likewise.' You shall not worship the Lord your God in that way; for
every abomination to the Lord which He hates they have done to their
gods; for they burn even their sons and daughters in the fire to their
gods.” Deuteronomy 12:29-31
"If there is found among you, within any of your gates which the Lord
your God gives you, a man or a woman who has been wicked in the sight
of the Lord your God, in transgressing His covenant, who has gone and
served other gods and worshiped them, either the sun or moon or any of
the host of heaven, which I have not commanded, and it is told you, and
you hear of it, then you shall inquire diligently. And if it is indeed
true and certain that such an abomination has been committed in Israel,
then you shall bring out to your gates that man or woman who has
committed that wicked thing and shall stone to death that man or woman
with stones.” Deuteronomy 17:2-5
’Cursed is the one who makes a carved or molded image, an abomination
to the Lord, the work of the hands of the craftsman, and sets it up in
secret.' And all the people shall answer and say, 'Amen!' Deuteronomy
27:15
Solution: Serve the living and true God.
For they themselves declare concerning us what manner of entry we had
to you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and
true God, and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the
dead, even Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come. 1
Thessalonians 1:9-10
Note: Only a perfect sacrifice can appease a holy God.
"You shall not sacrifice to the Lord your God a bull or sheep which has
any blemish or defect, for that is an abomination to the Lord your
God.” Deuteronomy 17:1
"There shall be no ritual harlot of the daughters of Israel, or a
perverted one of the sons of Israel. You shall not bring the wages of a
harlot or the price of a dog to the house of the Lord your God for any
vowed offering, for both of these are an abomination to the Lord your
God.” Deuteronomy 23:17-18
The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord, But the prayer of the upright is His delight. Proverbs 15:8
The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination; How much more when he brings it with wicked intent! Proverbs 21:27
Bring no more futile sacrifices; Incense is an abomination to Me. The
New Moons, the Sabbaths, and the calling of assemblies-- I cannot
endure iniquity and the sacred meeting. Isaiah 1:13
Solution: Jesus Christ was the final sacrifice for sin.
For such a High Priest was fitting for us, who is holy, harmless,
undefiled, separate from sinners, and has become higher than the
heavens; who does not need daily, as those high priests, to offer up
sacrifices, first for His own sins and then for the people's, for this
He did once for all when He offered up Himself. Hebrews 7:26-27
Note: Child sacrifice and witchcraft is an abomination to God.
There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his
daughter pass through the fire, or one who practices witchcraft, or a
soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one who
conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the
dead. For all who do these things are an abomination to the Lord, and
because of these abominations the Lord your God drives them out from
before you. Deuteronomy 18:10-12
Solution: Do not associate with false religious people.
Rather, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice they sacrifice to
demons and not to God, and I do not want you to have fellowship with
demons. 1 Corinthians 10:20
Note: Homosexuality is an abomination to God.
You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination. Leviticus 18:22
If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both have committed
an abomination. They shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be
upon them. Leviticus 20:13
Solution: Repent and be transformed.
Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of
God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor
adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous,
nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom
of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were
sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by
the Spirit of our God. 1 Corinthians 6:9-11
Note: Transgenderism is an abomination to God.
"A woman shall not wear anything that pertains to a man, nor shall a
man put on a woman's garment, for all who do so are an abomination to
the Lord your God.” Deuteronomy 22:5
For the perverse person is an abomination to the Lord, but His secret counsel is with the upright. Proverbs 3:32
Solution: Christians are to be blameless among perverse people.
Do all things without complaining and disputing, that you may become
blameless and harmless, children of God without fault amid a crooked
and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world,
holding fast the word of life, so that I may rejoice in the day of
Christ that I have not run in vain or labored in vain. Philippians
2:14-16
Note: Marriage not taken seriously is an abomination to God.
"When a man takes a wife and marries her, and it happens that she finds
no favor in his eyes because he has found some uncleanness in her, and
he writes her a certificate of divorce, puts it in her hand, and sends
her out of his house, when she has departed from his house, and goes
and becomes another man's wife, if the latter husband detests her and
writes her a certificate of divorce, puts it in her hand, and sends her
out of his house, or if the latter husband dies who took her as his
wife, then her former husband who divorced her must not take her back
to be his wife after she has been defiled; for that is an abomination
before the Lord, and you shall not bring sin on the land which the Lord
your God is giving you as an inheritance.” Deuteronomy 24:1-4
Solution: Love and respect are the cornerstones of a good marriage.
Nevertheless, let each one of you so love his own wife as himself, and
let the wife see that she respects her husband. Ephesians 5:33
Note: Bad business is an abomination to God.
"You shall not have in your bag differing weights, a heavy and a light.
You shall not have in your house differing measures, a large and a
small. You shall have a perfect and just weight, a perfect and just
measure, that your days may be lengthened in the land which the Lord
your God is giving you. For all who do such things, all who behave
unrighteously, are an abomination to the Lord your God.” Deuteronomy
25:13-16
Dishonest scales are an abomination to the Lord, but a just weight is His delight. Proverbs 11:1
Diverse weights and diverse measures, they are both alike, an abomination to the Lord. Proverbs 20:10
Diverse weights are an abomination to the Lord, and dishonest scales are not good. Proverbs 20:23
Solution: Business should be done honestly.
You shall do no injustice in judgment, in measurement of length,
weight, or volume. You shall have honest scales, honest weights, an
honest ephah, and an honest hin: I am the Lord your God, who brought
you out of the land of Egypt. Leviticus 19:35-36
Note: Evil people are an abomination to God.
These six things the Lord hates, yes, seven are an abomination to Him:
a proud look, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart
that devises wicked plans, feet that are swift in running to evil, a
false witness who speaks lies, and one who sows discord among brethren.
Proverbs 6:16-19
Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but those who deal truthfully are His delight. Proverbs 12:22
The way of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord, But He loves him who follows righteousness. Proverbs 15:9
The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the Lord, But the words of the pure are pleasant. Proverbs 15:26
The Lord has made all for Himself, yes, even the wicked for the day of
doom. Everyone proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord; Though
they join forces, none will go unpunished. Proverbs 16:4-5
He who justifies the wicked, and he who condemns the just, both of them alike are an abomination to the Lord. Proverbs 17:15
Now the Pharisees, who were lovers of money, also heard all these
things, and they derided Him. And He said to them, "You are those who
justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. For what is
highly esteemed among men is an abomination in the sight of God. Luke
16:14-15
Solution: Faith in Jesus Christ produces the righteousness of God.
But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being
witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, even the righteousness of God,
through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. Romans
3:21-22
Note: The final abomination will be in Jerusalem.
While returning to his land with great riches, his heart shall be moved
against the holy covenant; so, he shall do damage and return to his own
land. At the appointed time he shall return and go toward the south;
but it shall not be like the former or the latter. For ships from
Cyprus shall come against him; therefore, he shall be grieved, and
return in rage against the holy covenant, and do damage. So, he shall
return and show regard for those who forsake the holy covenant. And
forces shall be mustered by him, and they shall defile the sanctuary
fortress; then they shall take away the daily sacrifices, and place
there the abomination of desolation. Daniel 11:28-31
And from the time that the daily sacrifice is taken away, and the
abomination of desolation is set up, there shall be one thousand two
hundred and ninety days. Blessed is he who waits and comes to the one
thousand three hundred and thirty-five days. Daniel 12:11-12
"So, when you see the 'abomination of desolation,' spoken of by Daniel
the prophet, standing where it ought not" (let the reader understand),
"then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.” Mark 13:14
"Therefore, when you see the 'abomination of desolation,' spoken of by
Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place" (whoever reads, let him
understand), then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.”
Matthew 24:15-16
Solution: Jesus Christ will destroy the final abomination.
Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our
gathering together to Him, we ask you, not to be soon shaken in mind or
troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as
though the day of Christ had come. Let no one deceive you by any means;
for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the
man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, who opposes and exalts
himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he
sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God. Do
you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these
things? And now you know what is restraining, that he may be revealed
in his own time. For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work;
only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way.
And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume
with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His
coming. The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of
Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, and with all
unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not
receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this
reason, God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe
the lie, that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth
but had pleasure in unrighteousness. But we are bound to give thanks to
God always for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God from the
beginning chose you for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit
and belief in the truth, to which He called you by our gospel, for the
obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Thessalonians 2:1-14
