Edge of Eternity Living
Note: Believers are to be ready for the return of Jesus Christ.
“For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking,
marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the
ark, and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so
also will the coming of the Son of Man be. Then two men will be in the
field: one will be taken and the other left. Two women will be grinding
at the mill: one will be taken and the other left. Watch therefore, for
you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. But know this, that if
the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he
would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into.
Therefore, you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour
you do not expect.” Matthew 24:38-44
"Let your waist be girded and your lamps burning; and you yourselves be
like men who wait for their master, when he will return from the
wedding, that when he comes and knocks they may open to him
immediately. Blessed are those servants whom the master, when he comes,
will find watching. Assuredly, I say to you that he will gird himself
and have them sit down to eat and will come and serve them. And if he
should come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find
them so, blessed are those servants. But know this, that if the master
of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have
watched and not allowed his house to be broken into. Therefore, you
also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not
expect." Luke 12:35-40
I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will
judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: Preach
the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke,
exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. For the time will come
when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own
desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for
themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth
and be turned aside to fables. But you be watchful in all things,
endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your
ministry. 2 Timothy 4:1-5
Note: Believers are to be watching for the return of Jesus Christ.
"Then the kingdom of heaven shall be likened to ten virgins who took
their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Now five of them were
wise, and five were foolish. Those who were foolish took their lamps
and took no oil with them, but the wise took oil in their vessels with
their lamps. But while the bridegroom was delayed, they all slumbered
and slept. And at midnight a cry was heard: 'Behold, the bridegroom is
coming; go out to meet him!' Then all those virgins arose and trimmed
their lamps. And the foolish said to the wise, 'Give us some of your
oil, for our lamps are going out.' But the wise answered, saying, 'No,
lest there should not be enough for us and you; but go rather to those
who sell, and buy for yourselves.' And while they went to buy, the
bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the
wedding; and the door was shut. Afterward the other virgins came also,
saying, 'Lord, Lord, open to us!' But he answered and said, 'Assuredly,
I say to you, I do not know you.' Watch therefore, for you know neither
the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming. Matthew 25:1-13
“Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass
away. But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels in
heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Take heed, watch and pray;
for you do not know when the time is. It is like a man going to a far
country, who left his house and gave authority to his servants, and to
each his work, and commanded the doorkeeper to watch. Watch therefore,
for you do not know when the master of the house is coming--in the
evening, at midnight, at the crowing of the rooster, or in the
morning--lest, coming suddenly, he find you sleeping. And what I say to
you, I say to all: Watch!" Mark 13:31-37
But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need
that I should write to you. For you yourselves know perfectly that the
day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. For when they say,
"Peace and safety!" then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor
pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape. But you,
brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as
a thief. You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of
the night nor of darkness. Therefore, let us not sleep, as others do,
but let us watch and be sober. 1 Thessalonians 5:1-6
But the end of all things is at hand; therefore, be serious and
watchful in your prayers. And above all things have fervent love for
one another, for “love will cover a multitude of sins.” Be hospitable
to one another without grumbling. As each one has received a gift,
minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of
God. 1 Peter 4:7-10
Note: Believers are to awake to godliness.
And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of
sleep; for now, our salvation is nearer than when we first believed.
The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore, let us cast off
the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. Let us
walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in
lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy. But put on the Lord Jesus
Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.
Romans 13:11-14
Therefore, He says: "Awake, you who sleep, arise from the dead, and
Christ will give you light." See then that you walk circumspectly, not
as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
Therefore, do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord
is. And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be
filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and
spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord,
giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of
our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another in the fear of God.
Ephesians 5:14-21
If anyone teaches otherwise and does not consent to wholesome words,
even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which
accords with godliness, he is proud, knowing nothing, but is obsessed
with disputes and arguments over words, from which come envy, strife,
reviling, evil suspicions, useless wranglings of men of corrupt minds
and destitute of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of
gain. From such withdraw yourself. Now godliness with contentment is
great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain
we can carry nothing out. And having food and clothing, with these we
shall be content. But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation
and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in
destruction and perdition. For the love of money is a root of all kinds
of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness
and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. But you, O man of
God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith,
love, patience, gentleness. Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on
eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good
confession in the presence of many witnesses. 1 Timothy 6:3-12
And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good
works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the
manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you
see the Day approaching. Hebrews 10:24-25
Note: Believers will be eagerly waiting for Jesus Christ.
For
the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing
of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility, not
willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope; because the
creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption
into the glorious liberty of the children of God. For we know that the
whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now.
Not only that, but we also who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even
we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption,
the redemption of our body. For we were saved in this hope, but hope
that is seen is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees?
But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with
perseverance. Romans 8:19-25
I thank my God always concerning you for the grace of God which was
given to you by Christ Jesus, that you were enriched in everything by
Him in all utterance and all knowledge, even as the testimony of Christ
was confirmed in you, so that you come short in no gift, eagerly
waiting for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will also
confirm you to the end, that you may be blameless in the day of our
Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 1:4-8
"And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to
everyone according to his work. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the
Beginning and the End, the First and the Last." Revelation 22:12-13
For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this
book: If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues
that are written in this book; and if anyone takes away from the words
of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the
Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written
in this book. He who testifies to these things says, "Surely I am
coming quickly." Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus! The grace of our Lord
Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen. Revelation 22:18-21
Note: For believers the return of Jesus Christ will be soon.
But this I say, brethren, the time is short, so that from now on even
those who have wives should be as though they had none, those who weep
as though they did not weep, those who rejoice as though they did not
rejoice, those who buy as though they did not possess, and those who
use this world as not misusing it. For the form of this world is
passing away. 1 Corinthians 7:29-31
God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the
fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His
Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He
made the worlds; who being the brightness of His glory and the express
image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power,
when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of
the Majesty on high, having become so much better than the angels, as
He has by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they. Hebrews
1:1-4
The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His
servants--things which must shortly take place. And He sent and
signified it by His angel to His servant John, who bore witness to the
word of God, and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, to all things that
he saw. Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this
prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it; for the time
is near. Revelation 1:1-3
Then he said to me, "These words are faithful and true." And the Lord
God of the holy prophets sent His angel to show His servants the things
which must shortly take place. "Behold, I am coming quickly! Blessed is
he who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book." Revelation 22:6-7
Note: Believers are to be light in a dark world.
You
are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be
hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a
lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your
light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and
glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:14-16
"No one, when he has lit a lamp, puts it in a secret place or under a
basket, but on a lampstand, that those who come in may see the light.
The lamp of the body is the eye. Therefore, when your eye is good, your
whole body also is full of light. But when your eye is bad, your body
also is full of darkness. Therefore, take heed that the light which is
in you is not darkness. If then your whole body is full of light,
having no part dark, the whole body will be full of light, as when the
bright shining of a lamp gives you light." Luke 11:33-36
Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence
only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with
fear and trembling; for it is God who works in you both to will and to
do for His good pleasure. Do all things without complaining and
disputing, that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God
without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among
whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast the word of life,
so that I may rejoice in the day of Christ that I have not run in vain
or labored in vain. Philippians 2:12-16
But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men
will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud,
blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving,
unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of
good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than
lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And
from such people turn away! 2 Timothy 3:1-5
Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let
him glorify God in this matter. For the time has come for judgment to
begin at the house of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be
the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God? Now "If the
righteous one is scarcely saved, where will the ungodly and the sinner
appear?" Therefore, let those who suffer according to the will of God
commit their souls to Him in doing good, as to a faithful Creator. 1
Peter 4:16-19
Note: Believers will escape at the return of Jesus Christ.
Come,
my people, enter your chambers, and shut your doors behind you; Hide
yourself, as it were, for a little moment, until the indignation is
past. For behold, the Lord comes out of His place to punish the
inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity; The earth will also
disclose her blood and will no more cover her slain. Isaiah 26:20-21
Gather
yourselves together, yes, gather together, O undesirable nation, before
the decree is issued, or the day passes like chaff, before the Lord's
fierce anger comes upon you, before the day of the Lord's anger comes
upon you! Seek the Lord, all you meek of the earth, who have upheld His
justice. Seek righteousness, seek humility. It may be that you will be
hidden in the day of the Lord's anger. Zephaniah 2:1-3
“So, you also, when you see these things happening, know that the
kingdom of God is near. Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will
by no means pass away till all things take place. Heaven and earth will
pass away, but My words will by no means pass away. But take heed to
yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing,
drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you
unexpectedly. For it will come as a snare on all those who dwell on the
face of the whole earth. Watch therefore, and pray always that you may
be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass,
and to stand before the Son of Man.” Luke 21:31-36
“Because you have kept My command to persevere, I also will keep you
from the hour of trial which shall come upon the whole world, to test
those who dwell on the earth. Behold, I am coming quickly! Hold fast
what you have, that no one may take your crown. He who overcomes, I
will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he shall go out no
more. And I will write on him the name of My God and the name of the
city of My God, the New Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from
My God. And I will write on him My new name. He who has an ear, let him
hear what the Spirit says to the churches." Revelation 3:10-13
Note: The anti-Christ will appear before the return of Jesus Christ.
And
he said, "Go your way, Daniel, for the words are closed up and sealed
till the time of the end. Many shall be purified, made white, and
refined, but the wicked shall do wickedly; and none of the wicked shall
understand, but the wise shall understand. And from the time that the
daily sacrifice is taken away, and the abomination of desolation is set
up, there shall be one thousand two hundred and ninety days. Blessed is
he who waits and comes to the one thousand three hundred and
thirty-five days. Daniel 12:9-12
"Therefore,
when you see the 'abomination of desolation,' spoken of by Daniel the
prophet, standing in the holy place" (whoever reads, let him
understand), then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. Let
him who is on the housetop not go down to take anything out of his
house. And let him who is in the field not go back to get his clothes.
But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies
in those days! And pray that your flight may not be in winter or on the
Sabbath. For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been
since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall
be. And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but
for the elect's sake those days will be shortened.” Matthew 24:15-22
Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our
gathering together to Him, we ask you, not to be soon shaken in mind or
troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as
though the day of Christ had come. Let no one deceive you by any means;
for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the
man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, who opposes and exalts
himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he
sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God. Do
you not remember that when I was still with you, I told you these
things? And now you know what is restraining, that he may be revealed
in his own time. For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work;
only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way.
2 Thessalonians 2:1-7
So, they worshiped the dragon who gave authority to the beast; and they
worshiped the beast, saying, "Who is like the beast? Who is able to
make war with him?" And he was given a mouth speaking great things and
blasphemies, and he was given authority to continue for forty-two
months. Then he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme
His name, His tabernacle, and those who dwell in heaven. It was granted
to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them. And authority
was given to him over every tribe, tongue, and nation. All who dwell on
the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written in the
Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. If
anyone has an ear, let him hear. Revelation 13:4-9
Note: Whoever calls on the name of Yahweh will be saved in the last days.
“Then you shall know that I am in the midst of Israel: I am the
Lord your God and there is no other. My people shall never be put to
shame. And it shall come to pass afterward that I will pour out My
Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your
old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions. And also
on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in
those days. And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth:
Blood and fire and pillars of smoke. The sun shall be turned into
darkness, and the moon into blood, before the coming of the great and
awesome day of the Lord. And it shall come to pass that whoever calls
on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Joel 2:27-32
“But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: 'And it shall come to
pass in the last days, says God, That I will pour out of My Spirit on
all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your young men
shall see visions, your old men shall dream dreams. And on My
menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those
days; And they shall prophesy. I will show wonders in heaven above and
signs in the earth beneath: Blood and fire and vapor of smoke. The sun
shall be turned into darkness, And the moon into blood, Before the
coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord. And it shall come to
pass that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.'” Acts
2:16-21
But what does it say? "The word is near you, in your mouth and in your
heart" (that is, the word of faith which we preach): that if you
confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that
God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart
one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made
unto salvation. For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will
not be put to shame.” For there is no distinction between Jew and
Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. For
“whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Romans 10:8-13
Note: The ungodly will be destroyed at the return of Jesus Christ.
Why
do the nations rage, and the people plot a vain thing? The kings of the
earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the
Lord and against His Anointed, saying, “Let us break their bonds in
pieces and cast away their cords from us.” He who sits in the heavens
shall laugh; The Lord shall hold them in derision. Then He shall speak
to them in His wrath, and distress them in His deep displeasure: “Yet I
have set My King on My holy hill of Zion. I will declare the decree:
The Lord has said to Me, ‘You are My Son, today I have begotten You.
Ask of Me, and I will give You the nations for Your inheritance, and
the ends of the earth for Your possession. You shall break them with a
rod of iron; You shall dash them to pieces like a potter’s vessel.’ Now
therefore, be wise, O kings; Be instructed, you judges of the earth.
Serve the Lord with fear and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest
He be angry, and you perish in the way, when His wrath is kindled but a
little. Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him.” Psalm 2:1-12
Behold, a whirlwind of the Lord has gone forth in fury-- a violent
whirlwind! It will fall violently on the head of the wicked. The anger
of the Lord will not turn back until He has executed and performed the
thoughts of His heart. In the latter days you will understand it
perfectly. Jeremiah 23:19-20
Behold, the whirlwind of the Lord Goes forth with fury, a continuing
whirlwind; It will fall violently on the head of the wicked. The fierce
anger of the Lord will not return until He has done it, and until He
has performed the intents of His heart. In the latter days you will
consider it. Jeremiah 30:23-24
It shall be in that day that I will seek to destroy all the nations
that come against Jerusalem. And I will pour on the house of David and
on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication;
then they will look on Me whom they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for
Him as one mourns for his only son and grieve for Him as one grieves
for a firstborn. Zechariah 12:9-10
And as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of
the Son of Man: They ate, they drank, they married wives, they were
given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the
flood came and destroyed them all. Likewise, as it was also in the days
of Lot: They ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted,
they built; but on the day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire
and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. Even so will it be in
the day when the Son of Man is revealed. Luke 17:26-30
Come now, you rich, weep and howl for your miseries that are coming
upon you! Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth-eaten.
Your gold and silver are corroded, and their corrosion will be a
witness against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have heaped
up treasure in the last days. James 5:1-3
Beloved, I now write to you this second epistle (in both of which I
stir up your pure minds by way of reminder), that you may be mindful of
the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the
commandment of us, the apostles of the Lord and Savior, knowing this
first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to
their own lusts, and saying, "Where is the promise of His coming? For
since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from
the beginning of creation." For this they willfully forget: that by the
word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of
water and in the water, by which the world that then existed perished,
being flooded with water. But the heavens and the earth which are now
preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of
judgment and perdition of ungodly men. But, beloved, do not forget this
one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a
thousand years as one day. 2 Peter 3:1-8
Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike
the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He
Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty
God. And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF
KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS. Then I saw an angel standing in the sun; and
he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the birds that fly in the
midst of heaven, "Come and gather together for the supper of the great
God, that you may eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains, the
flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and of those who sit on them,
and the flesh of all people, free and slave, both small and great." And
I saw the beast, the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered
together to make war against Him who sat on the horse and against His
army. Then the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who
worked signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who received
the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image. These two were
cast alive into the lake of fire burning with brimstone. And the rest
were killed with the sword which proceeded from the mouth of Him who
sat on the horse. And all the birds were filled with their flesh.
