Ephesians Chapter 1
Ephesians chapter 1 outlines the immense spiritual blessings believers
have "in Christ," including being chosen before creation, adopted as
God’s children, redeemed through Jesus' blood, and sealed with the Holy
Spirit. Paul praises God for this grace, reveals the plan to unite all
things in Christ, and prays for believers to understand their
inheritance and God's great power.
Verse 1: How did Paul become an apostle?
Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, Ephesians 1:1

Verse 1: How were saints characterized in Ephesus?

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed

Verse 4: When were we chosen by God to be holy, without blame, and in love?

to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved. Ephesians 1:6

Verse 7: How do we have redemption or the forgiveness of sins?
In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace Ephesians 1:7

Verse 8: Grace abounds to us in what?
which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence, Ephesians 1:8

Verse 9: Wisdom of God helps us understand what?
having made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He purposed in Himself, Ephesians 1:9

Verse 10: At the end of time all things will be gathered in whom?
that in the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather
together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven and
which are on earth—in Him. Ephesians 1:10

Verse 11: According to the will of God, what do we obtain?
In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined
according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the
counsel of His will, Ephesians 1:11
Answer: The will of God has predestined us to an inheritance of eternal life.
Verse 12: What is produced when we trust Jesus Christ?
that we who first trusted in Christ should be to the praise of His glory. Ephesians 1:12
Answer: Our trust in Jesus Christ produces praises to God.
Verse 13: When we trust and believe in Jesus Christ, what happens?
In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel
of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with
the Holy Spirit of promise, Ephesians 1:13
Answer: Our trust in Jesus Christ seals us to God by Holy Spirit.
Verse 14: What is the Holy Spirit to us?
who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the
purchased possession, to the praise of His glory. Ephesians 1:14
Answer: The Holy Spirit is our guarantee of our inheritance of eternal life.
Verses 15-16: Why was Paul giving thanks to believers at Ephesus?
Therefore, I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and
your love for all the saints, 16 do not cease to give thanks for you,
making mention of you in my prayers: Ephesians 1:15-16
Answer: Paul gave thanks for their faith in Jesus Christ and love for the saints.
Verse 17: What does Paul want believers to have from God?
that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to
you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him,

Verse 18: What does Paul want believers to understand about our salvation?
the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know
what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of

and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe,

far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every
name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to
