Ephesians Chapter 5

Ephesians 5 calls believers to imitate God by walking in love, light, and wisdom, separating themselves from immorality and darkness. It urges being filled with the Spirit, living thankfully, and practicing mutual submission. The chapter concludes by modeling Christian marriage on Christ’s sacrificial love for the church.

Verse 1: Who are we to imitate?
Therefore, be imitators of God as dear children. Ephesians 5:1
Answer: We are to imitate God.

Verse 2: How are we to live life?
And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma. Ephesians 5:2
Answer: We are to walk in love.

Verses 3-4: What are we to avoid?
But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints; neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting, Ephesians 5:3-4
Answer: We are to avoid fornication, covetousness, foolish talking and coarse jesting.

Verse 4: How are we to live life?
but rather giving of thanks. Ephesians 5:4
Answer: We are to be giving thanks to God.

Verse 5: Who will not inherit the kingdom of God?
For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. Ephesians 5:5
Answer: Fornicators and covetous people will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Verse 6: The wrath of God comes upon who?
Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Ephesians 5:6
Answer: The wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.

Verse 7: Who should we not associate with?
Therefore, do not be partakers with them. Ephesians 5:7
Answer: We should avoid the sons of disobedience

Verse 8: God gives us what? Matthew 5:14-16
For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light Ephesians 5:8
Answer: We are light in this dark world.

Verse 9: What is the evidence of the Holy Spirit?
(for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), Ephesians 5:9
Answer: We should reflect goodness, righteousness, and truth.

Verse 10: The Holy Spirit helps us to discover what?
finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. Ephesians 5:10
Answer: The Holy Spirit helps us to find what is acceptable to the Lord.

Verse 11: What are we to do with false brethren?
And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness but rather expose them. Ephesians 5:11
Answer: Have no fellowship with false brethren but expose them.

Verse 12: False brethren will do evil how?
For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret. Ephesians 5:12
Answer: False Brethren will do evil in secret.

Verse 13: What exposes false brethren? Psalm 119:105
But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light. Ephesians 5:13
Answer: The light of the word of God will expose false brethren.

Verse 14: Who gives us light?
Therefore, He says: “Awake, you who sleep, arise from the dead, and Christ will give you light.” Ephesians 5:14
Answer: Jesus Christ will give us light.

Verse 15: How are we to live this life?
See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, Ephesians 5:15
Answer: We are to live this life wisely.

Verse 16: What are we to redeem now?
redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Ephesians 5:16
Answer: We are to redeem our time.

Verse 17: How are we to understand the will of God?
Therefore, do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. Ephesians 5:17
Answer: We are the understand the will of God wisely.

Verse 18: Are we to sip or guzzle wine?
And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, Ephesians 5:18
Answer: We are to sip wine and be filled with the Holy Spirit.

Verse 19: How are we to encourage each other?
speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, Ephesians 5:19
Answer: We are to encourage each other while worshiping the Lord.

Verse 20: What are the major components of prayer?
giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, Ephesians 5:20
Answer: We are to give thanks to God the Father in the name of Jesus Christ.

Verse 21: How are we to treat each other?
submitting to one another in the fear of God. Ephesians 5:21
Answer: We are to submit to one another in the fear of God.

Verse 22: How are wives to treat husbands?
Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. Ephesians 5:22
Answer: Wives are to submit to their own husbands.

Verse 23: Who is the head of the church?
For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. Ephesians 5:23
Answer: Jesus Christ is the head of the church.

Verse 24: Who are all Christians subject to?
Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything. Ephesians 5:24
Answer: All Christians are subject to Jesus Christ.

Verse 25: How are husbands to treat wives?
Husbands, love your wives, Ephesians 5:25
Answer: Husbands must love their wives.

Verse 25: Who gave Himself for the church?
 just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, Ephesians 5:25
Answer: Jesus Christ gave Himself for the church.

Verse 26: The church will be guided by what?
that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, Ephesians 5:26
Answer: Jesus Christ cleanses the church by the word of God.

Verse 27: The church will be presented to Jesus Christ how?
that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish. Ephesians 5:27
Answer: Jesus Christ will present the church to Himself in perfection.

Verse 28: How are husbands to love their wives?
So, husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself. Ephesians 5:28
Answer: Husbands are to love their wives as themselves.

Verse 29: How are husbands to treat their wives?
For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church. Ephesians 5:29
Answer: Husbands are to cherish their wives.

Verse 30: We are all members of who?
For we are members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones. Ephesians 5:30
Answer: We are members of Jesus Christ.

Verse 31: What happens when people marry?
“For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” Ephesians 5:31
Answer: The husband and wife shall become one.

Verse 32: Marriage resembles what?
This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church. Ephesians 5:32
Answer: Marriage resembles Jesus Christ and the church.

Verse 33: What makes a great marriage?
Nevertheless, let each one of you in particular so love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband. Ephesians 5:33
Answer: Husbands should love their wives and wives should respect their husbands.
