How to Avoid Hell Fire
1) John the Baptist prophesied about Jesus Christ being the Judge.
But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his
baptism, he said to them, “Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from
the wrath to come? Therefore, bear fruits worthy of repentance, and do
not think to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I
say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these
stones. And even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees.
Therefore, every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and
thrown into the fire. I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance,
but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am
not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His
threshing floor, and gather His wheat into the barn; but He will burn
up the chaff with unquenchable fire.” Matthew 3:7-12
John answered, saying to all, “I indeed baptize you with water; but One
mightier than I is coming, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose.
He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. His winnowing fan is
in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and
gather the wheat into His barn; but the chaff He will burn with
unquenchable fire.” Luke 3:16-17
Note: The Holy Spirit is given to believers for being a witness.
“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you;
and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and
Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts 1:8
Note: Damnation by hell fire is given to non-believers.
“Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you
cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his
angels: for I was hungry and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty and you
gave Me no drink; I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, naked
and you did not clothe Me, sick and in prison and you did not visit
Me.’” Matthew 25:41-43
2) The Law demands perfection to escape hell fire.
“You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not
murder, and whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment.’ But I
say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall
be in danger of the judgment. And whoever says to his brother, ‘Raca!’
shall be in danger of the council. But whoever says, ‘You fool!’ shall
be in danger of hell fire.” Matthew 5:21-22
Note: Faith in Jesus Christ saves us from hell fire.
For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which
is Jesus Christ. Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold,
silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, each one’s work will become
clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by
fire; and the fire will test each one’s work, of what sort it is. If
anyone’s work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a
reward. If anyone’s work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself
will be saved, yet so as through fire. 1 Corinthians 3:11-15
3) People producing bad works continually will be in hell fire.
“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but
inwardly they are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits.
Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? Even so,
every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A
good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit.
Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into
the fire. Therefore, by their fruits you will know them.” Matthew
7:15-20
Note: Believers will produce good works by the Holy Spirit.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering,
kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against
such there is no law. And those who are Christ’s have crucified the
flesh with its passions and desires. Galatians 5:22-24
4) Unbelievers will be rewarded with hell fire at the end of the age.
Then Jesus sent the multitude away and went into the house. And His
disciples came to Him, saying, “Explain to us the parable of the tares
of the field.” He answered and said to them: “He who sows the good seed
is the Son of Man. The field is the world, the good seeds are the sons
of the kingdom, but the tares are the sons of the wicked one. The enemy
who sowed them is the devil, the harvest is the end of the age, and the
reapers are the angels. Therefore, as the tares are gathered and burned
in the fire, it will be at the end of this age. The Son of Man will
send out His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all things
that offend, and those who practice lawlessness, and will cast them
into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth.
Then the righteous will shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their
Father. He who has ears to hear, let him hear! Matthew 13:36-43
Note: Jesus Christ will be the judge at the end of the age.
Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face
the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for
them. And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and
books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of
Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things
which were written in the books. The sea gave up the dead who were in
it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And
they were judged, each one according to his works. Then Death and Hades
were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And anyone
not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.
Revelation 20:11-15
5) The Law demands perfection to escape hell fire.
“If your hand or foot causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from
you. It is better for you to enter into life lame or maimed, rather
than having two hands or two feet, to be cast into the everlasting
fire. And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from
you. It is better for you to enter into life with one eye, rather than
having two eyes, to be cast into hell fire.” Matthew 18:8-9
If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to
enter into life maimed, rather than having two hands, to go to hell,
into the fire that shall never be quenched— where their worm does not
die and the fire is not quenched.’ And if your foot causes you to sin,
cut it off. It is better for you to enter life lame, rather than having
two feet, to be cast into hell, into the fire that shall never be
quenched— where their worm does not die and the fire is not quenched.’
And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you
to enter the kingdom of God with one eye, rather than having two eyes,
to be cast into hell fire— where their worm does not die and the fire
is not quenched.’ Mark 9:43-48
Note: Faith in Jesus Christ saves us from hell fire.
But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith,
praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, looking
for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. And on some
have compassion, making a distinction; but others save with fear,
pulling them out of the fire, hating even the garment defiled by the
flesh. Jude 1:20-23
6) Believers will abide in Jesus Christ and avoid hell fire.
“I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in
Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears
fruit He prunes that it may bear more fruit. You are already clean
because of the words which I have spoken to you. Abide in Me, and I in
you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the
vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. I am the vine; you are
the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for
without Me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in Me, he is
cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw
them into the fire, and they are burned. If you abide in Me, and My
words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done
for you. By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so,
you will be My disciples. John 15:1-8
Note: Are you abiding in Jesus Christ through faith?
Therefore, let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. If
what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in
the Son and in the Father. And this is the promise that He has promised
us—eternal life. These things I have written to you concerning those
who try to deceive you. But the anointing which you have received from
Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as
the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and
is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him. And
now, little children, abide in Him, that when He appears, we may have
confidence and not be ashamed before Him at His coming. 1 John 2:24-28
7) Jesus Christ exhorts believers to be rich by abiding in Him.
“And to the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write, these things
say the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Beginning of the
creation of God: “I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot.
I wish you were cold or hot. So then, because you are lukewarm, and
neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. Because you
say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’—and do
not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked— I
counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be
rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of
your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye
salve, that you may see. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten.
Therefore, be zealous and repent. Behold, I stand at the door and
knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to
him and dine with him, and he with Me. To him who overcomes I will
grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with
My Father on His throne. He who has an ear, let him hear what the
Spirit says to the churches.”’” Revelation 3:14-22
Note: Are you abiding in Jesus Christ through faith?
In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be,
you have been grieved by various trials, that the genuineness of your
faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is
tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the
revelation of Jesus Christ, whom having not seen you love. Though now
you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible
and full of glory, receiving the end of your faith—the salvation of
your souls. 1 Peter 1:6-9
