Do You Have Hope?
Note: Wicked hypocrites have no hope.
So are the paths of all who forget God; And the hope of the hypocrite
shall perish, whose confidence shall be cut off, and whose trust is a
spider's web. Job 8:13-14
But the eyes of the wicked will fail, and escape will elude them; their hope will become a dying gasp. Job 11:20
For what is the hope of the hypocrite, though he may gain much, if God takes away his life? Job 27:8
The hope of the righteous will be gladness, but the expectation of the wicked will perish. Proverbs 10:28
When a wicked man dies, his expectation will perish, and the hope of the unjust perishes. Proverbs 11:7
The desire of the righteous ends only in good, but the hope of the wicked only in wrath. Proverbs 11:23
Do not fret because of evildoers or be envious of the wicked, for the
evildoer has no future hope, and the lamp of the wicked will be snuffed
out. Proverbs 24:19-20
Note: Tangible eternal life is a hope of the believer.
I have set the Lord always before me; Because He is at my right hand I
shall not be moved. Therefore, my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices;
My flesh also will rest in hope. For You will not leave my soul in
Sheol, nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption. You will
show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your
right hand are pleasures forevermore. Psalm 16:8-11
For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the
revealing of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to
futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope;
because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of
corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. For we
know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs
together until now. Not only that, but we also who have the firstfruits
of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly
waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body. For we were saved
in this hope, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still
hope for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we
eagerly wait for it with perseverance. Romans 8:19-25
For if the dead do not rise, then Christ is not risen. And if Christ is
not risen, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins! Then also
those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If in this life
only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable. But
now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of
those who have fallen asleep. 1 Corinthians 15:16-20
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according
to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through
the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance
incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in
heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith for
salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. 1 Peter 1:3-5
Note: Believers will love God and have their hope in Him.
Oh, love the Lord, all you His saints! For the Lord preserves the
faithful, and fully repays the proud person. Be of good courage, And He
shall strengthen your heart, all you who hope in the Lord. Psalm
31:23-24
Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured
out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us. For when we
were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.
Romans 5:5-6
And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love. 1 Corinthians 13:13
Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy, To the church of the Thessalonians in God
the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace from God
our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. We give thanks to God always for
you all, making mention of you in our prayers, remembering without
ceasing your work of faith, labor of love, and patience of hope in our
Lord Jesus Christ in the sight of our God and Father, knowing, beloved
brethren, your election by God. 1 Thessalonians 1:1-4
Note: Believers will trust God and have their hope in Him.
Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help and our shield. For our
heart shall rejoice in Him, because we have trusted in His holy name.
Let Your mercy, O Lord, be upon us, just as we hope in You. Psalm
33:20-22
For You are my hope, O Lord God; You are my trust from my youth. Psalm 71:5
Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, and whose hope is the Lord. Jeremiah 17:7
But I trust in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you shortly, that I
also may be encouraged when I know your state. For I have no one
like-minded, who will sincerely care for your state. For all seek their
own, not the things which are of Christ Jesus. But you know his proven
character, that as a son with his father he served with me in the
gospel. Therefore, I hope to send him at once, as soon as I see how it
goes with me. But I trust in the Lord that I myself shall also come
shortly. Philippians 2:19-24
Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ, by the commandment of God our Savior
and the Lord Jesus Christ, our hope, to Timothy, a true son in the
faith: Grace, mercy, and peace from God our Father and Jesus Christ our
Lord. 1 Timothy 1:1-2
Note: Believers hope is encouraged by the word of God.
Remember the word to Your servant, upon which You have caused me to
hope. This is my comfort in my affliction, for Your word has given me
life. Psalm 119:49-50
You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in Your word. Depart from
me, you evildoers, For I will keep the commandments of my God! Uphold
me according to Your word, that I may live; And do not let me be
ashamed of my hope. Psalm 119:114-116
I cry out with my whole heart; Hear me, O Lord! I will keep Your
statutes. I cry out to You; Save me, and I will keep Your testimonies.
I rise before the dawning of the morning, and cry for help; I hope in
Your word. My eyes are awake through the night watches, That I may
meditate on Your word. Psalm 119:145-148
For whatever things were written before were written for our learning,
that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have
hope. Romans 15:4
Note: Faith in Jesus Christ produces hope.
Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God
through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by
faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the
glory of God. And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations,
knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance,
character; and character, hope. Romans 5:1-4
And again, he says: "Rejoice, O Gentiles, with His people!" And again:
"Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles! Laud Him, all you peoples!" And
again, Isaiah says: "There shall be a root of Jesse; And He who shall
rise to reign over the Gentiles, in Him the Gentiles shall hope." Now
may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that
you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:10-13
Thus God, determining to show more abundantly to the heirs of promise
the immutability of His counsel, confirmed it by an oath, that by two
immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might
have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the
hope set before us. This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both
sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil,
where the forerunner has entered for us, even Jesus, having become High
Priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek. Hebrews 6:17-20
Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood
of Jesus, by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through
the veil, that is, His flesh, and having a High Priest over the house
of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith,
having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies
washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope
without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. Hebrews 10:19-23
Note: Believers have the hope of a purpose or calling in life.
Therefore, I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and
your love for all the saints, do not cease to give thanks for you,
making mention of you in my prayers: that the God of our Lord Jesus
Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and
revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding
being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling,
what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and
what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe,
according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ
when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in
the heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and
dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also
in that which is to come. Ephesians 1:15-21
I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of
the calling with which you were called, with all lowliness and
gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love,
endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There
is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your
calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all,
who is above all, and through all, and in you all. But to each one of
us grace was given according to the measure of Christ's gift. Ephesians
4:1-7
But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of
faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation. For God did not
appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus
Christ, who died for us, that whether we wake or sleep, we should live
together with Him. 1 Thessalonians 5:8-10
Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and our God and Father, who has
loved us and given us everlasting consolation and good hope by grace,
comfort your hearts and establish you in every good word and work. 2
Thessalonians 2:16-17
For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men,
teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live
soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the
blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus
Christ, who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every
lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for
good works. Titus 2:11-14
For God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love which you
have shown toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints,
and do minister. And we desire that each one of you show the same
diligence to the full assurance of hope until the end, that you do not
become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience
inherit the promises. Hebrews 6:10-12
