PERFECTION BEFORE GOD
1) God is perfect.
As for God, His way is perfect; The word of the LORD is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him. Psalms 18:30
Note: Only Yahweh is God.
For who is God, except the LORD? And who is a rock, except our God? Psalms 18:31
2) Satan was perfect until iniquity was found in him.
“You were the seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.
You were in Eden, the garden of God; Every precious stone was your
covering: The sardius, topaz, and diamond, beryl, onyx, and jasper,
sapphire, turquoise, and emerald with gold. The workmanship of your
timbrels and pipes was prepared for you on the day you were created.
You were the anointed cherub who covers; I established you; You were on
the holy mountain of God; You walked back and forth in the midst of
fiery stones. You were perfect in your ways from the day you were
created, till iniquity was found in you. Ezekiel 28:12-15
Note: Satan was cast out of heaven.
And He said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven." Luke 10:18
3) God demands perfection in His presence.
"Therefore, you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect." Matthew 5:48
Note: Everyone has fallen short of perfection.
What then? Are we better than they? Not at all. For we have previously
charged both Jews and Greeks that they are all under sin. As it is
written: “There is none righteous, no, not one; There is none who
understands; There is none who seeks after God. They have all turned
aside; They have together become unprofitable; There is none who does
good, no, not one. Their throat is an open tomb; With their tongues
they have practiced deceit; The poison of asps is under their lips;
Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness. Their feet are swift to
shed blood; Destruction and misery are in their ways; And the way of
peace they have not known. There is no fear of God before their eyes.”
Romans 3:9-18
4) God demands perfection to earn salvation.
Now behold, one came and said to Him, “Good Teacher, what good thing
shall I do that I may have eternal life?” So, He said to him, “Why do
you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God. But if you want
to enter into life, keep the commandments.” He said to Him, “Which
ones?” Jesus said, “‘You shall not murder,’ ‘You shall not commit
adultery,’ ‘You shall not steal,’ ‘You shall not bear false witness,’
Honor your father and your mother,’ and ‘You shall love your neighbor
as yourself.’” The young man said to Him, “All these things I have kept
from my youth. What do I still lack?” Jesus said to him, “If you want
to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you
will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.” Matthew 19:16-21
Note: People cannot save themselves. Only God can save people.
When His disciples heard it, they were greatly astonished, saying, “Who
then can be saved?” But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With
men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Matthew
19:25-26
5) Keeping the Old Testament Law will not perfect you.
For the law, having a shadow of the good things to come, and not the
very image of the things, can never with these same sacrifices, which
they offer continually year by year, make those who approach perfect.
For then would they not have ceased to be offered? For the worshipers,
once purified, would have had no more consciousness of sins. But in
those sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year. For it is not
possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins.
Hebrews 10:1-4
Note: Keeping the Old Testament Law will not justify you before God.
Therefore, by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin. Romans 3:20
6) Many people believe they can work for their salvation.
O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you that you should not obey the
truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed among you
as crucified? This only I want to learn from you: Did you receive the
Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? Are you so
foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are you now being made perfect by
the flesh? Have you suffered so many things in vain—if indeed it was in
vain? Galatians 3:1-4
Note: The Law was our tutor to bring us to Jesus Christ in faith.
Is the law then against the promises of God? Certainly not! For if
there had been a law given which could have given life, truly
righteousness would have been by the law. But the Scripture has
confined all under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might
be given to those who believe. But before faith came, we were kept
under guard by the law, kept for the faith which would afterward be
revealed. Therefore, the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that
we might be justified by faith. But after faith has come, we are no
longer under a tutor. Galatians 3:21-25
7) Jesus Christ brings perfection to mankind through the grace of God.
But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, for the
suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that He, by the grace
of God, might taste death for everyone. For it was fitting for Him, for
whom are all things and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons
to glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through
sufferings. Hebrews 2:9-10
Note: Immortality comes from the grace of God in Jesus Christ.
Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me His
prisoner, but share with me in the sufferings for the gospel according
to the power of God, who has saved us and called us with a holy
calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose
and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began, but
has now been revealed by the appearing of our Savior Jesus Christ, who
has abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through
the gospel, to which I was appointed a preacher, an apostle, and a
teacher of the Gentiles. For this reason, I also suffer these things;
nevertheless, I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and am
persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until
that Day. 2 Timothy 1:8-12
Note: Do you have a testimony of Jesus Christ?
