No New Covenant Prophets
Note: The Law and Prophets ended with John the Baptist.
For all the Prophets and the Law prophesied until John. Matthew 11:13
The Law and the Prophets were until John. Luke 16:16
Note: Jesus Christ is the final revelation of God.
Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, a called apostle,
separated to the gospel of God (which He had promised beforehand through
His prophets in the Holy Scriptures), about His Son, Jesus Christ our
Lord, who was made of the seed of David according to the flesh, who was
marked out the Son of God in power, according to the Spirit of holiness,
by the resurrection from the dead. Romans 1:1-4
God, who at many times and in many
ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these
last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all
things, by whom also He made the worlds, who being the shining splendor
of His glory, and the express image of His essence, and upholding all
things by the word of His power, through Himself cleansing of our sins,
He sat down on the right of the Majesty on high, being made so much
better than the angels, as He has by inheritance obtained a more
excellent name than they. Hebrews 1:1-4
A Revelation of Jesus Christ, which
God gave to Him to declare to His servants things which must shortly
come to pass. And He signified it by sending His angel to His servant
John, who bore record of the Word of God and of the testimony of Jesus
Christ and of all the things that he saw. Blessed is the one who reads
and hears the Words of this prophecy, and the ones keeping the things
written in it, for the time is near. Revelation 1:1-3
Note: Paul and John were servants of Jesus Christ not prophets.
Note: Is predicting a famine a sign of a prophet?
And in these days prophets from
Jerusalem came to Antioch. And one of them named Agabus stood up and
signified by the Spirit that there should be great famine over the
world (which also happened in the days of Claudius Caesar). Acts
11:27-28
Note: In Agrarian societies, droughts will cause famines.
Note: Were perceived prophets a problem at Antioch?
And certain ones who came down from Judea taught
the brothers, saying, "Unless you are circumcised according to the custom
of Moses, you cannot be saved." Therefore dissension and not a little
disputation occurring by Paul and Barnabas, they appointed Paul and Barnabas
and certain others of them to go up to Jerusalem to the apostles and elders
about this question. Acts 15:1-2
But when Peter came to Antioch, I opposed him
to his face, because he was to be blamed. For before some came from James,
he ate with the nations. But when they came, he withdrew and separated himself,
fearing those of the circumcision. And the rest of the Jews also
dissembled with him, so as even Barnabas was led away with their
dissembling. But when I saw that they did not walk uprightly with the
truth of the gospel, I said to Peter before all, If you, being a Jew, live as a
Gentile, and not as the Jews, why do you compel the nations to
judaize? We Jews by nature, and not sinners of the nations, knowing
that a man is not justified by works of the Law, but through faith in
Jesus Christ; even we believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by
the faith in Christ, and not by works of the Law. For all flesh will not be
justified by works of law. Galatians 2:11-16
Note: Apostle Paul refused to listen to a perceived prophet.
And as we stayed more days, a certain
prophet from Judea named Agabus came down. And coming to us, and taking
Paul's belt, and binding his hands and feet, he said, "The Holy Spirit
says these things: So shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man whose
belt this is, and will deliver him into the hands of the nations." And
when we heard these things, both we and those of the place begged him
not to go up to Jerusalem. Then Paul answered, "What are you doing,
weeping and breaking my heart? For I am ready not only to be bound, but
also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus." Acts 21:10-13
Note: The Jerusalem church had not left the Old Covenant or Law.
And we being in Jerusalem, the
brothers received us gladly. And on the next day Paul went with us to
James. And all the elders were present. And having greeted them, he
related one by one what things God had done among the nations by his
ministry. And hearing, they glorified the Lord, and said to him, "You
see, brother, how many thousands of Jews there are who believe, and
they are all zealous of the Law. And they are informed concerning you,
that you teach all the Jews who are among the nations to forsake Moses,
saying that they ought not to circumcise their children, nor to walk
after the customs." Acts 21:17-21
Note: Believers should not be zealous for the Old Covenant or Law.
For as many as are out of works of
the Law, these are under a curse; for it is written, “Cursed is
everyone who does not continue in all things which are written in the
Book of the Law, to do them.” But that no one is justified by the Law
in the sight of God is clear, for, “The just shall live by faith.” But
the Law is not of faith; but, “The man who does these things shall live
in them.” Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, being made a
curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone having been hanged
on a tree”); so that the blessing of Abraham might be to the nations in
Jesus Christ, and that we might receive the promise of the Spirit
through faith. Galatians 3:10-14
Note: The Church was established upon the writings of the Prophets.
Now therefore you are no longer
strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints, and of
the household of God, and are built upon the foundation of the apostles
and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone, in whom
every building having been fitly framed together, grows into a holy
sanctuary in the Lord; in whom you also are built together for a
dwelling place of God through the Spirit. Ephesians 2:19-22
Note: Jesus Christ fulfilled or will fulfill the writings of the Prophets.
And He came to Nazareth, where He had
been brought up. And, as His custom was, He went in to the synagogue on
the Sabbath day and stood up to read. And the book of the prophet
Isaiah was handed to Him. And unrolling the book, He found the place
where it was written, “The Spirit of the Lord is on Me; because of this
He has anointed Me to proclaim the Gospel to the poor. He has sent me
to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim deliverance to the captives, and
new sight to the blind, to set at liberty those having been crushed, to
proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.” And rolling up the book,
returning it to the attendant, He sat down. And the eyes of all in the
synagogue were fastened on Him. And He began to say to them, “Today
this Scripture is fulfilled in your ears.” Luke 4:16-21
Note: Matthew referenced the writings of the Prophets.
But He answered and said to them, "An
evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign. And there shall be
no sign given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah." Matthew 12:39
Note: Mark referenced the writings of the Prophets.
But when you see the abomination of
desolation, that spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it
ought not (let him who reads understand), then let those who are in
Judea flee to the mountains. Mark 13:14
Note: Luke referenced the writings of the Prophets.
as it is written in the book of the Words
of Isaiah the prophet, saying, “The voice of one crying in the
wilderness, prepare the way of the Lord, make His paths straight.” Luke
3:4
Note: John referenced the writings of the Prophets.
But though He had done so many
miracles before them, yet they did not believe on Him, so that the
saying of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spoke, "Lord,
who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been
revealed?" John 12:37-38
Note: Peter referenced the writings of the Prophets.
But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel: Acts 2:16
Note: Stephen referenced the writings of the Prophets.
But, the Most High does not dwell in temples made with hands, as the prophet says, Acts 7:48
Note: Philip referenced the writings of the Prophets.
And Philip ran there to him and heard
him read the prophet Isaiah, and said, "Do you indeed understand what
you are reading?" Acts 8:30
Note: Paul referenced the writings of the Prophets.
And they having appointed him a day,
many came to him in his lodging; to whom he expounded, testifying the
kingdom of God, and persuading them the things concerning Jesus, both
out of the Law of Moses and out of the Prophets, from morning until
evening. Acts 28:23
Note: Prophesying as proclaiming for edification in the Church.
Every man praying or prophesying with his head covered dishonors his Head. 1 Corinthians 11:4
Follow after charity and desire spiritual things, but rather that you may prophesy. 1 Corinthians 14:1
The one speaking in a tongue builds
himself up, but he prophesying builds up a church. I wish all of you to
speak in languages, but rather that you may prophesy; for greater is he
prophesying than he speaking in tongues, unless he interpret so that
the church may receive building up. 1 Corinthians 14:4-5
Do not despise prophesying. 1 Thessalonians 5:20
Note: Moses and Elijah will be known as witnesses in the future not prophets.
And I will give power to My two
witnesses, and they will prophesy a thousand, two hundred and sixty
days, clothed in sackcloth. These are the two olive trees and the two
lampstands standing before the God of the earth. And if anyone will
hurt them, fire proceeds out of their mouth and devours their enemies.
And if anyone will hurt them, so it is right for him to be killed.
These have authority to shut up the heaven, that it may not rain in the
days of their prophecy. And they have authority over waters to turn
them to blood, and to strike the earth with every plague, as often as
they desire. Revelation 11:3-6
Note: Are we witnesses of Jesus Christ and the New Covenant?
But you shall receive power, the Holy
Spirit coming upon you. And you shall be witnesses to Me both in
Jerusalem and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and to the end of the
earth. Acts 1:8
For I determined not to know anything among you
except Jesus Christ and Him crucified. 1 Corinthians 2:2
For if the blood of bulls and of goats and the ashes of a heifer
sprinkling the unclean sanctifies to the purifying of the flesh, how much
more shall the blood of Christ (who through the eternal Spirit offered
Himself without spot to God) purge your conscience from dead works to serve the
living God? And for this cause He is the Mediator of the new covenant, so
that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were
under the first covenant, those who are called might receive the promise of
eternal inheritance. Hebrews 9:13-15
Worship God, for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. Revelation 19:10
