WHY GOD?

Have you wondered why hurricanes, earthquakes, floods, riots, fires, and financial reverses have been striking our country on a regular basis for years? Is it just chance happenings or is something supernatural occurring? Amazingly, the Bible says, "And there will be great earthquakes in various places, and famines and pestilences; and there will fearful sights and great signs from heaven." Luke 21:11. Again, the Bible says, "But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: for men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God." 2 Timothy 3:1-4.

Does this mean that God wants to destroy us? Can we escape from further destruction? Or do we want to just wait and see? First, it would be foolish just to wait and see what might happen. The Apostle Peter cried out to thousands of people in Jerusalem, "Be saved from this perverse generation." Acts 2:40. Second, God does not want to destroy you but reconcile you back to Himself through His Son Jesus Christ. The Apostle Paul writes, "For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life." Romans 5:10. Lastly, our country can be spared from destruction. The Bible says, "If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land." 2 Chronicles 7:14.

But, what about me? What can I do to escape? How can I know that God loves me? First, God loves you with a everlasting love. The Bible says, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God." John 3:16-18. If you have accepted Jesus Christ into your life you can stop worrying about all the things going on around you. The Bible says, "Do not seek what you should eat or what you should drink, nor have an anxious mind. For all these things the nations of the world seek after, and your Father knows that you need these things. But seek the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added to you." Luke 12:29-31. Again, the Bible says, "Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up." James 4:10.

How can I accept Jesus Christ into my life? Will God accept me since I have done many evil things? After describing the many evils people are capable of doing, the Apostle Paul writes, "And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God." 1 Corinthians 6:11. You can accept Jesus into your life and become a new person by simply praying in your own words to God asking Jesus to come into your life!

What are some of the promises that Jesus gives? Jesus said, "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." Matthew 11:28. Jesus said, "I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you." John 14:18. Again, Jesus said, "Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." John 14:27. These and many other promises Jesus gave to people who put their trust and hope in Him.

Can we be sure of these promises? Yes we can be sure. Jesus said, "Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away." Matthew 24:35.
