(Exo 28:30) "And you shall put in the breastplate of judgment the Urim and the Thummim, and they shall be over Aaron's heart when he goes in before the LORD. So Aaron shall bear the judgment of the children of Israel over his heart before the LORD continually.
 
(Lev 8:8) Then he put the breastplate on him, and he put the Urim and the Thummim in the breastplate.

In 1827 Smith claimed to receive the golden plates upon which the Book of Mormon is alleged to have been written. Shortly after this historic find, unearthed in the hill Cumorah near Palmyra, New York, Smith began to "translate" the "reformed Egyptian" hieroglyphics inscribed thereupon by means of the " Urim and Thummim", a type of miraculous spectacles which the always thoughtful angel Moroni had the foresight to provide for the budding seer. (The Kingdom of the Cults, page 172.)
 
Obviously, Joseph Smith forgot that the Urim and Thummim were stones that God wanted attached to the breastplate of the High Priest. Joseph Smith said they were not stones but spectacles that the angel Moroni gave him.
