Do Not Worry
“Therefore, I say to you, do not worry about your life (1), what you will eat or what you will drink (2); nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing (3)? Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them (4). Are you not of more value than they? Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature (5)?
So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field,
how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that
even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Now if
God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is
thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little
faith (6)? Therefore, do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat (7)?’ or ‘What shall we drink (8)?’ or ‘What shall we wear (9)?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things (10). But seek first the kingdom of God (11) and His righteousness (12),
and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore, do not worry
about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things.
Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” Matthew 6:25-34
1) God has given believers eternal life in Jesus Christ.
And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this
life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have
the Son of God does not have life. 1 John 5:11-12
2) Belief in Jesus Christ is more important than food.
“Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which
endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you,
because God the Father has set His seal on Him.” Then they said to Him,
“What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?” Jesus answered
and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him
whom He sent.” John 6:27-29
3) Believers should be content with just food and clothing.
Now godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing
into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having
food and clothing, with these we shall be content. 1 Timothy 6:6-8
4) Believers should not be concerned about food.
So, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread
from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity
of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the
Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved. Acts 2:46-47
5) Believers will grow in spiritual stature grounded on Jesus Christ.
And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some
evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the
saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of
Christ, till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge
of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of
the fullness of Christ; Ephesians 4:11-13
6) Believers will be arrayed in a gentle and quiet spirit.
Do not let your adornment be merely outward—arranging the hair, wearing
gold, or putting on fine apparel— rather let it be the hidden person of
the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit,
which is very precious in the sight of God. 1 Peter 3:3-4
7) Pray and trust God for food.
Give us this day our daily bread. Matthew 6:11
8) Believers will drink of eternal life in Jesus Christ.
On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried
out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who
believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow
rivers of living water.” But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom
those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet
given, because Jesus was not yet glorified. John 7:37-39
9) Believers will wear fine linen eternally.
And I heard, as it were, the voice of a great multitude, as the sound
of many waters and as the sound of mighty thunderings, saying,
“Alleluia! For the Lord God Omnipotent reigns! Let us be glad and
rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and
His wife has made herself ready.” And to her it was granted to be
arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright, for the fine linen is the
righteous acts of the saints. Revelation 19:6-8
10) Believers will share with one another.
Nevertheless, you have done well that you shared in my distress. Now
you Philippians know also that in the beginning of the gospel, when I
departed from Macedonia, no church shared with me concerning giving and
receiving but you only. For even in Thessalonica you sent aid once and
again for my necessities. Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the
fruit that abounds to your account. Indeed, I have all and abound. I am
full, having received from Epaphroditus the things sent from you, a
sweet-smelling aroma, an acceptable sacrifice, well pleasing to God.
And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory
by Christ Jesus. Now to our God and Father be glory forever and ever.
Amen. Philippians 4:14-20
11) God has delivered believers into the kingdom of Jesus Christ.
For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to
pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of
His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; that you may walk
worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good
work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all
might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and
longsuffering with joy; giving thanks to the Father who has qualified
us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light. He
has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the
kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His
blood, the forgiveness of sins. Colossians 1:9-14
12) Believers have the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ.
But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being
witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, even the righteousness of God,
through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. For there
is no difference; for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of
God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is
in Christ Jesus, whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood,
through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His
forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously
committed, to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that
He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.
