WATCHTOWER - JUNE 1, 1998

Page 4: Those first-century ridiculers questioned the reality of Christ's "promised presence," saying: "Where is this promised presence of his? Why, from the day our forefathers fell asleep in death, all things are continuing exactly as from creation's beginning." (2 Peter 3:4)

Correction: The Watchtower mistranslates Scripture by using presence instead of coming.

1 Thessalonians 2:19 For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Is it not even you in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at His coming?

Correction: The presence of Jesus Christ occurred at Pentecost.

Matthew 28:20 "teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen.

John 15:26 "But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me."

Page 4: As this journal has frequently explained, Christ Jesus' "presence" began in 1914.

Note: 1914 is based on a bogus date of 607 BCE for the destruction of Jerusalem.

Page 6: When we announce the good news of God's Kingdom, we are pleasing Jehovah too.

Correction: The "good news" is Jesus Christ.

1 Corinthians 15:1-4 Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the good news which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you; unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures,

Correction: God is greatly displeased when a different "good news" is preached.

Galatians 1:8-9 But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other good news to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other good news to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.

Page 6: Rather, now is the time to grow in appreciation of what Jehovah's patience has brought - the prospect of salvation to millions who become part of the international great crowd and look forward to surviving the coming great tribulation. (Revelation 7:9, 14)

Note: Jesus Christ will deliver true Christians from the wrath of God that is coming.

1 Thessalonians 1:10 and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, even Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come.

Page 7: Learn what is required to qualify to share in this never-to-be-repeated global witness work that will be concluded at the approaching great tribulation. (Mark 13:10)

Note: You must be Jesus witnesses and be empowered by the Holy Spirit.

Acts 1:8 "But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."

Acts 4:31 And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.

1 Corinthians 2:4-5 And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.

Page 12: It simply means walking ahead in a straight line - in other words, building up good spiritual habits and keeping to them day by day, year in and year out. Remember, "he that has endured to the end is the one that will be saved." - Matthew 24:13.

Note: Is the Watchtower advocating that we observe the Sabbath?

Matthew 24:20-21 "And pray that your flight may not be in winter or on the Sabbath. For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be."

Page 13: The promoting of human ideas and thinking not based solidly on God's Word can pose a threat to Christian stability. We must be wary of such threats. The apostle John urged: "Beloved ones, do not believe every inspired expression, but test the inspired expressions to see whether they originate with God." (1 John 4:1)

Note: The Watchtower promotes the bogus dates of 1914 and 607 BCE for Biblical prophecy.

Page 17: Jude cites an example of one who respected duly constituted authority. He writes: "When Michael the archangel had a difference with the Devil and was disputing about Moses' body, he did not dare to bring a judgment against him in abusive terms, but said: 'May Jehovah rebuke you.'" (Jude 9)

Note: The Watchtower is inconsistent with its translation of the Word of God.

Jude 1:9 ...but said, "The Lord (kurios) rebuke you!"

Jude 1:17 ...Lord (kurios) Jesus Christ:

Note: Jesus Christ can not be Michael the archangel as the Watchtower proclaims.

Matthew 4:10 Then Jesus said to him, " Away with you, Satan! For it is written, 'You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only you shall serve.'"

Page 19: Never should we neglect this marvelous privilege! And when we pray, we may ask - in fact, keep asking - for holy spirit. (Luke 11:13) It is the strongest force available to us. With such help, we can always remain in God's love and endure as soldiers of Christ.

Correction: The Holy Spirit is not a force but a person. May the force be with you?

John 16:13-14 "However, when He (not it), the Spirit of truth, has come, He (not it) will guide you into all truth; for He (not it) will not speak on His (not its) own authority, but whatever He (not it) hears He (not it) will speak; and He (not it) will tell you things to come. He (not it) will glorify Me, for He (not it) will take of what is Mine and declare it to you."

Page 23: Jehovah's motherlike organization diligently fulfills its responsibility to prepare delightful spiritual meals served through its publications and at the meetings of the more than 85,000 Christian congregations worldwide. Thus, with spiritual help from our Father, Jehovah, and his motherlike organization, even the "fatherless" will enjoy some measure of Bible study.

Note: Since the Watchtower misrepresents who Jesus Christ is, it must be wicked.

2 Peter 3:17-18 You therefore, beloved, since you know this beforehand, beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked; but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.
