WATCHTOWER - NOVEMBER 15, 1997

Page 6: But who can uproot sin and do away with Satan and his rulership? Clearly, no human nor any human agency can acomplish such a formidable task. Only Jehovah God can!

Correction: Jesus Christ overcame Satan and his rule.

John 16:33 "These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world."

Page 6: These "new heavens" are not new physical heavens. God made our physical heavens perfect, and they bring him glory. (Psalm 8:3; 19:1; 2) The "new heavens" is a new rulership over the earth. The present "heavens" consist of man-made governments.

Correction: The present creation has been effected by sin.

Romans 8:20-22 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope; because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now.

Correction: Man-made governments are represented as a great image.

Daniel 2:31-33 "You, O king, were watching; and behold, a great image! This great image, whose splendor was excellent, stood before you; and its form was awesome. This image's head was of fine gold, its chest and arms of silver, its belly and thighs of bronze, its legs of iron, its feet partly of iron and partly of clay."

Page 6: The "new earth" refers to a new society of people. (Genesis 11:1; Psalm 96:1) The "earth" that will be destroyed consists of the people that make themselves part of this wicked system of things. (2 Peter 3:7)

Correction: This earth will be destroyed and replaced by a "new earth."

2 Peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.

Page 7: Jesus ransom sacrifice can benefit us even now. By exercising faith in it, we can enjoy a clean standing before God. (Acts 10:43; 1 Corinthians 6:11) Under the rule of God's Kingdom, the ransom will make possible for mankind, the ransom will make possible for mankind a complete recovery from sin.

Correction: Complete spiritual recovery from sin was made (past tense) by the death of Jesus.

1 Corinthians 6:11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.

Page 7: Now is the time to prepare for life in that just world by learning what God requires of us.

Note: We must put our sincere faith and trust in Jesus Christ.

John 6:29 Jesus answered and said to them, "This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent."

John 6:40 "And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day."

John 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me."

Page 8: James was an elder in the Jerusalem congregation. In fact, he, Cephas (Peter), and John "seemed to be pillars" - strong, solidly fixed supporters of the congregation. (Galatians 2:9)

Correction: James and Peter caused problems in the congregation at Antioch.

Galatians 2:11-13 Now when Peter had come to Antioch, I withstood him to his face, because he was to be blamed; for before certain men came from James, he would eat with the Gentiles; but when they came, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing those who were of the circumcision. And the rest of the Jews also played the hypocrite with him, so that even Barnabas was carried away with their hypocrisy.

Page 9: God is not now performing miraculous cures, but he answers our prayers for the wisdom and fortitude needed to deal with illness. (Psalm 41:1-3)

Correction: God still heals if He so chooses.

1 Cor. 12:28 And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, varieties of tongues.

Page 9: Let us not be "indecisive" and "unsteady" in prayer or in other ways. Instead, let us have faith in Jehovah, the Source of wisdom. - Proverbs 3:5, 6.

Note: Don't forget about Jesus Christ.

Colossians 2:2-3 that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, and attaining to all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the knowledge of the mystery of God, both of the Father and of Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

Page 10-11: If we have earthly hopes and maintain our faith in God, we can look forward to everlasting life on a paradise earth. (Luke 23:43; Romans 6:23)

Note: Don't forget about Jesus Christ.

Galatians 3:26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.

Page 11: Jehovah is not trying to induce us to commit sin but is sure to help us and give us the strength needed to endure trials if we remain steadfast in faith. (Philippians 4:13)

Note: Don't forget about Jesus Christ.

2 Timothy 4:17 But the Lord stood with me and strengthened me, so that the message might be preached fully through me, and that all the Gentiles might hear. And I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion.

Page 11: Jehovah is "the Father of the celestial lights" - the sun, the moon, and the stars. He also gives us spiritual light and truth. (Psalm 43:3; Jeremiah 31:35; 2 Corinthians 4:6)

Note: Don't forget about Jesus Christ.

John 1:6-13 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

Page 11: Unlike the sun that makes shadows change as it moves and is at its zenith only at high noon. God is always at his peak in providing what is good.

Correction: The truly good things for us is yet future when we are in our eternal inheritance.

Hebrews 9:11 But Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come, with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation.

Page 11: What if we have an earthly hope? Well, keeping it in mind will help us to cling to our faith to our faith in the Giver of "every good gift," who has made everlasting life possible under Kingdom rule.

Correction: Everlasting life is possible only through Jesus Christ.

Ephesians 1:7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace

Ephesians 1:13-14 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.

Page 14: James is talking about works motivated, not by a law code, but by faith and love.

Correction: If we are truly of God then He will do His works through us.

Ephesians 2:10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

Page 15: It is fine if we have rejected the Trinity doctrine and believe that there is one true God.

Note: According to the Watchtower, Jesus Christ is a false god.

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Page 15: Abraham's works in trying to offer up Isaac confirmed God's earlier pronouncement that Abraham was righteous. By works of faith, he showed his love for God and came to be called "Jehovah's friend."

Correction: It was by faith based on sincere belief that we can please God.

Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

Hebrews 11:8 By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.

Page 19: Jesus Christ's long-awaited "presence" is now a fact. (Matthew 24:3-14)

Correction: The presence of Jesus Christ occurred long before 1914.

Matthew 18:20 "For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them."

Matthew 28:20 "teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen.

John 14:23 Jesus answered and said to him, "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him."

1 Corinthians 3:16 Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?
