BOOK OF MORMON

1 Nephi - Chapter 6 Critique

Setting: Nephi begins his record in first year of the reign of Zedekiah the last king of Judah in the year 597 BC. Jeremiah the prophet would have been his contemporary and there should be a corollary between Nephi and Jeremiah.

Verse 1: AND now I, Nephi, do not give the genealogy of my fathers in this part of my record; neither at any time shall I give it after upon these plates which I am writing; for it is given in the record which has been kept by my father; wherefore, I do not write it in this work.

Note: Jewish records were kept on scrolls of parchment not plates of brass.

Ezekiel 2:9 Now when I looked, there was a hand stretched out to me; and behold, a scroll of a book was in it.

Verse 2: For it sufficeth me to say that we are descendants of Joseph.

Note: Descendants of Joseph were identified by the tribes of Manasseh and Ephriam.

Joshua 16:4 So the children of Joseph, Manasseh and Ephraim, took their inheritance.

Verse 3: And it mattereth not to me that I am particular to give a full account of all the things of my father, for they cannot be written upon these plates, for I desire the room that I may write of the things of God.

Zechariah 5:3 Then he said to me, "This is the curse that goes out over the face of the whole earth: 'Every thief shall be expelled,' according to this side of the scroll; and, 'Every perjurer shall be expelled,' according to that side of it."

Verse 4: For the fulness of mine intent is that I may persuade men to come unto the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, and be saved.

Note: Have you come to the person of Jesus Christ? Have you received Him?

Matthew 11:28 "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."

Verse 5: Wherefore, the things which are pleasing unto the world I do not write, but the things which are pleasing unto God and unto those who are not of the world.

Psalm 40:7 Then I said, "Behold, I come; In the scroll of the book it is written of me."
