BOOK OF MORMON

2 Nephi - Chapter 30 Critique

Setting: Nephi supposedly began his second record in the Americas during 588 BCE about the time of the destruction of Jerusalem and continued to 545 BCE. This would have covered the time of the prophets Ezekiel and Daniel who were prophesying in Babylon during the captivity.

Verse 1: AND now behold, my beloved brethren, I would speak unto you; for I, Nephi, would not suffer that ye should suppose that ye are more righteous than the Gentiles shall be. For behold, except ye shall keep the commandments of God ye shall all likewise perish; and because of the words which have been spoken ye need not suppose that the Gentiles are utterly destroyed.

Note: These "Jews" were not performing animal sacrifices per the commandment of God.

Leviticus 3:6 "If his offering as a sacrifice of a peace offering to the LORD is of the flock, whether male or female, he shall offer it without blemish."

Verse 2: For behold, I say unto you that as many of the Gentiles as will repent are the covenant people of the Lord; and as many of the Jews as will not repent shall be cast off; for the Lord covenanteth with none save it be with them that repent and believe in his Son, who is the Holy One of Israel.

Note: Have you sincerely believed in the Lord Jesus Christ for eternal life?

Romans 4:5-8 But to him who does not work but believes on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness, just as David also describes the blessedness of the man to whom God imputes righteousness apart from works: "Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven, And whose sins are covered; Blessed is the man to whom the LORD shall not impute sin."

Verse 3: And now, I would prophesy somewhat more concerning the Jews and the Gentiles. For after the book of which I have spoken shall come forth, and be written unto the Gentiles, and sealed up again unto the Lord, there shall be many which shall believe the words which are written; and they shall carry them forth unto the remnant of our seed.

Note: True prophecy or revelation from God is unsealed.

Revelation 22:10 And he said to me, "Do not seal the words of the prophecy of this book, for the time is at hand."

Verse 4: And then shall the remnant of our seed know concerning us, how that we came out from Jerusalem, and that they are descendants of the Jews.

Note: Jews did not escape to Egypt much less America from the Babylonians.

Jeremiah 42:17 "So shall it be with all the men who set their faces to go to Egypt to dwell there. They shall die by the sword, by famine, and by pestilence. And none of them shall remain or escape from the disaster that I will bring upon them."

Verse 5: And the gospel of Jesus Christ shall be declared among them; wherefore, they shall be restored unto the knowledge of their fathers, and also to the knowledge of Jesus Christ, which was had among their fathers.

Note: The gospel of Jesus Christ never had to be restored.

Mat 16:18 "And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it."

Verse 6: And then shall they rejoice; for they shall know that it is a blessing unto them from the hand of God; and their scales of darkness shall begin to fall from their eyes; and many generations shall not pass away among them, save they shall be a pure and a delightsome people.

Note: Mormon scribes changed this verse to hide the racism of Sidney Rigdon.

1830 edition verse 6: And then shall they rejoice: for they shall know that it is a blessing unto them from the hand of God; and their scales of darkness shall begin to fall from their eyes; and many generations shall not pass away among them, save they shall be a white and a delightsome people. 3,913 Changes in the Book of Mormon, 1996.

Verse 7: And it shall come to pass that the Jews which are scattered also shall begin to believe in Christ; and they shall begin to gather in upon the face of the land; and as many as shall believe in Christ shall also become a delightsome people.

Note: Jews began believing the gospel before they were scattered by the Roman armies.

Acts 2:41 Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them.

Verse 8: And it shall come to pass that the Lord God shall commence his work among all nations, kindreds, tongues, and people, to bring about the restoration of his people upon the earth.

Note: The house of Israel will be restored after the return of Jesus Christ.

Matthew 24:30-31 "Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other."

Verse 9: And with righteousness shall the Lord God judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth. And he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth; and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.

Note: Sidney Rigdon copied the old King James Version of the Holy Bible.

Isaiah 11:4 But with righteousness He shall judge the poor, and decide with equity for the meek of the earth; He shall strike the earth with the rod of His mouth, and with the breath of His lips He shall slay the wicked.

Verse 10: For the time speedily cometh that the Lord God shall cause a great division among the people, and the wicked will he destroy; and he will spare his people, yea, even if it so be that he must destroy the wicked by fire.

Note: The flesh of the wicked will be eaten by birds at the return of Jesus Christ.

Revelation 19:17-18 Then I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the birds that fly in the midst of heaven, "Come and gather together for the supper of the great God, that you may eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and of those who sit on them, and the flesh of all people, free and slave, both small and great."

Verse 11: And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins.

Note: Sidney Rigdon copied the old King James Version of the Holy Bible.

Isaiah 11:5 Righteousness shall be the belt of His loins, and faithfulness the belt of His waist.

Verse 12: And then shall the wolf dwell with the lamb; and the leopard shall lie down with the kid, and the calf, and the young lion, and the fatling, together; and a little child shall lead them.

Note: Sidney Rigdon copied the old King James Version of the Holy Bible.

Isaiah 11:6 "The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, the leopard shall lie down with the young goat, the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; And a little child shall lead them."

Verse 13: And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together; and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.

Note: Sidney Rigdon copied the old King James Version of the Holy Bible.

Isaiah 11:7 The cow and the bear shall graze; Their young ones shall lie down together; And the lion shall eat straw like the ox.

Verse 14: And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice's den.

Note: Sidney Rigdon copied the old King James Version of the Holy Bible.

Isaiah 11:8 The nursing child shall play by the cobra's hole, and the weaned child shall put his hand in the viper's den.

Verse 15: They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain; for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.

Note: Sidney Rigdon copied the old King James Version of the Holy Bible.

Isaiah 11:9 They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain, for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD As the waters cover the sea.

Verse 16: Wherefore, the things of all nations shall be made known; yea, all things shall be made known unto the children of men.

Matthew 10:26 "Therefore do not fear them. For there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, and hidden that will not be known."

Verses 17-18: There is nothing which is secret save it shall be revealed; there is no work of darkness save it shall be made manifest in the light; and there is nothing which is sealed upon the earth save it shall be loosed. Wherefore, all things which have been revealed unto the children of men shall at that day be revealed; and Satan shall have power over the hearts of the children of men no more, for a long time. And now, my beloved brethren, I make an end of my sayings.

Luke 8:16-17 "No one, when he has lit a lamp, covers it with a vessel or puts it under a bed, but sets it on a lampstand, that those who enter may see the light. For nothing is secret that will not be revealed, nor anything hidden that will not be known and come to light."

Note: Will you heed the warning of Jesus Christ and leave the LDS church?
