3 Nephi Chapter 26 Critique
Setting:
Jesus expounds all things from the beginning to the end—Babes and
children utter marvelous things that cannot be written—Those in the
Church of Christ have all things in common among them. About A.D. 34.
Verses 1-2:
And now it came to pass that when Jesus had told these things he
expounded them unto the multitude; and he did expound all things unto
them, both great and small. And he saith: These scriptures, which ye
had not with you, the Father commanded that I should give unto you; for
it was wisdom in him that they should be given unto future generations.
Note: Pagan Pre-Columbian scriptures were not about God.
From
the very beginning, the Maya used writing as a propaganda tool, rather
than as a means of recording accurate details of history. In a
hierarchical society where the elite competed for prestige and
leadership positions, writing was used to reinforce a ruler's military
power and to legitimize his descent from noble ancestors and the gods.
Writings on stone monuments were designed to place rulers in the most
favourable light possible, and ancient sculptural inscriptions deal
primarily with historical events, marriages, births, military campaigns
and victories, rulers and other dynastic affairs. Canadian Museum of
History.
Verse 3:
And he did expound all things, even from the beginning until the time
that he should come in his glory—yea, even all things which should come
upon the face of the earth, even until the elements should melt with
fervent heat, and the earth should be wrapt together as a scroll, and
the heavens and the earth should pass away;
Note: Sidney Rigdon was fascinated with the end of the world.
But
the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the
heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt
with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be
burned up. 2 Peter 3:10.
Verse 4:
And even unto the great and last day, when all people, and all
kindreds, and all nations and tongues shall stand before God, to be
judged of their works, whether they be good or whether they be evil—
Note: Sidney Rigdon was fascinated with the end of the world.
And I
saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were
opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the
dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were
written in the books. Revelation 20:12.
Verse 5:
If they be good, to the resurrection of everlasting life; and if they
be evil, to the resurrection of damnation; being on a parallel, the one
on the one hand and the other on the other hand, according to the
mercy, and the justice, and the holiness which is in Christ, who was
before the world began.
Note: Sidney Rigdon was fascinated with the end of the world.
“When
the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him,
then He will sit on the throne of His glory. All the nations will be
gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a
shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. And He will set the sheep on
His right hand, but the goats on the left.” Matthew 25:31-33.
Verses 6-7:
And now there cannot be written in this book even a hundredth part of
the things which Jesus did truly teach unto the people; But behold the
plates of Nephi do contain the more part of the things which he taught
the people.
Note: Pagan Pre-Columbian natives did not write on plates of brass.
The
Maya wrote using 800 individual signs or glyphs, paired in columns that
read together from left to right and top to bottom. Maya glyphs
represented words or syllables that could be combined to form any word
or concept in the Mayan language, including numbers, time periods,
royal names, titles, dynastic events, and the names of gods, scribes,
sculptors, objects, buildings, places, and food. Hieroglyphic
inscriptions were either carved in stone and wood on Maya monuments and
architecture, or painted on paper, plaster walls and pottery. Canadian
Museum of History.
Verses 8-10:
And these things have I written, which are a lesser part of the things
which he taught the people; and I have written them to the intent that
they may be brought again unto this people, from the Gentiles,
according to the words which Jesus hath spoken.
And when they shall have received this, which is expedient that they
should have first, to try their faith, and if it shall so be that they
shall believe these things then shall the greater things be made
manifest unto them. And if it so be that they will not believe these
things, then shall the greater things be withheld from them, unto their
condemnation.
Note: Old Testament prophecies will be fulfilled in the Middle East.
For I
do not desire, brethren, that you should be ignorant of this mystery,
lest you should be wise in your own opinion, that blindness in part has
happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. And
so all Israel will be saved, as it is written: “The Deliverer will come
out of Zion, and He will turn away ungodliness from Jacob; For this is
My covenant with them, when I take away their sins.” Romans 11:25-27.
Verses 11-12:
Behold, I was about to write them, all which were engraven upon the
plates of Nephi, but the Lord forbade it, saying: I will try the faith
of my people. Therefore I, Mormon, do write the things which have been
commanded me of the Lord. And now I, Mormon, make an end of my sayings,
and proceed to write the things which have been commanded me.
Note: Pagan Pre-Columbian natives did not write on plates of brass.
Maya
glyphs were also painted on codices made of either deer hide or
bleached fig-tree paper that was then covered with a thin layer of
plaster and folded accordion-style. The inscriptions in the codices
were painted by highly trained scribes, and record rituals,
chronologies and important events. Canadian Museum of History.
Verses 13-14:
Therefore, I would that ye should behold that the Lord truly did teach
the people, for the space of three days; and after that he did show
himself unto them oft, and did break bread oft, and bless it, and give
it unto them. And it came to pass that he did teach and minister unto
the children of the multitude of whom hath been spoken, and he did
loose their tongues, and they did speak unto their fathers great and
marvelous things, even greater than he had revealed unto the people;
and he loosed their tongues that they could utter.
Note: Jesus Christ did not appear to pagan Pre-Columbian natives.
Teotihuacán
culture exerted a profound influence on all contemporary and later
Meso-American cultures. Many Aztec gods, such as Tlaloc, his consort
Chalchiuhtlicue, and Quetzalcóatl, were worshiped by the Teotihuacanos.

Verses 15-16: And
it came to pass that after he had ascended into heaven—the second time
that he showed himself unto them, and had gone unto the Father, after
having healed all their sick, and their lame, and opened the eyes of
their blind and unstopped the ears of the deaf, and even had done all
manner of cures among them, and raised a man from the dead, and had
shown forth his power unto them, and had ascended unto the Father—
Behold, it came to pass on the morrow that the multitude gathered
themselves together, and they both saw and heard these children; yea,
even babes did open their mouths and utter marvelous things; and the
things which they did utter were forbidden that there should not any
man write them.
Note: Jesus Christ did not ascend into heaven multiple times.
But
this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down
at the right hand of God, from that time waiting till His enemies are
made His footstool. Hebrews 10:12-13.
Verse 17:
And it came to pass that the disciples whom Jesus had chosen began from
that time forth to baptize and to teach as many as did come unto them;
and as many as were baptized in the name of Jesus were filled with the
Holy Ghost.
Note: Christians are filled with the Holy Spirit before baptism.
While
Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all
those who heard the word. And those of the circumcision who believed
were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the
Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also. For they heard
them speak with tongues and magnify God.
Then Peter answered, “Can anyone forbid water, that these should not be
baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?” And he
commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then they asked
him to stay a few days. Acts 10:44-48.
Note: Sidney Rigdon believed in the baptismal regeneration heresy.
Verse 18: And many of them saw and heard unspeakable things, which are not lawful to be written.
Note: Sidney Rigdon plagiarized the Holy Bible.
And I
know such a man—whether in the body or out of the body I do not know,
God knows— how he was caught up into Paradise and heard inexpressible
words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter. 2 Corinthians 12:3-4.
Verse 19:
And they taught, and did minister one to another; and they had all
things common among them, every man dealing justly, one with another.
Note: Sidney Rigdon plagiarized the Holy Bible.
Now
all who believed were together, and had all things in common, and sold
their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had
need. Acts 2:44-45.
Verses 20-21:
And it came to pass that they did do all things even as Jesus had
commanded them. And they who were baptized in the name of Jesus were
called the church of Christ.
Note: Christians will preach Jesus Christ not baptism.
For
Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not with
wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of no effect.
For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing,
but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 1 Corinthians
1:17-18.
Note: The cross is never displayed on Mormon buildings.
