The Book of Moroni Chapter 10 Critique
Setting: A testimony of the
Book of Mormon comes by the power of the Holy Ghost—The gifts of the
Spirit are dispensed to the faithful—Spiritual gifts always accompany
faith—Moroni’s words speak from the dust—Come unto Christ, be perfected
in Him, and sanctify your souls. About A.D. 421.
Verses 1-3: Now I, Moroni,
write somewhat as seemeth me good; and I write unto my brethren, the
Lamanites; and I would that they should know that more than four
hundred and twenty years have passed away since the sign was given of
the coming of Christ. And I seal up these records, after I have spoken
a few words by way of exhortation unto you. Behold, I would exhort you
that when ye shall read these things, if it be wisdom in God that ye
should read them, that ye would remember how merciful the Lord hath
been unto the children of men, from the creation of Adam even down
until the time that ye shall receive these things, and ponder it in
your hearts.
Note: Pre-Columbian writing systems used pictures not letters.
Mayan writing consisted of a relatively elaborate set of glyphs, which
were laboriously painted on ceramics, walls or bark-paper codices,
carved in wood or stone, or molded in stucco. Carved and molded glyphs
were painted, but the paint has rarely survived. About 90% of Mayan
writing can now be read with varying degrees of certainty, enough to
give a comprehensive idea of its structure. Wikipedia Encyclopedia
Note: Greek was unknown in pagan Pre-Columbian America.
Christ comes from the Greek word christos, meaning "anointed one."
Verses 4-5: And when ye shall
receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the
Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true;
and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having
faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the
power of the Holy Ghost. And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know
the truth of all things.

“But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father,
the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of
Me. And you also will bear witness, because you have been with Me from
the beginning.” John 15:26-27.

Christ comes from the Greek word christos, meaning "anointed one."
Verses 6-7: And whatsoever
thing is good is just and true; wherefore, nothing that is good denieth
the Christ, but acknowledgeth that he is. And ye may know that he is,
by the power of the Holy Ghost; wherefore I would exhort you that ye
deny not the power of God; for he worketh by power, according to the
faith of the children of men, the same today and tomorrow, and forever.

“You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal
life; and these are they which testify of Me. But you are not willing
to come to Me that you may have life.” John 5:39-40

Verse 8: And again, I exhort
you, my brethren, that ye deny not the gifts of God, for they are many;
and they come from the same God. And there are different ways that
these gifts are administered; but it is the same God who worketh all in
all; and they are given by the manifestations of the Spirit of God unto
men, to profit them.

Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are
differences of administrations, but the same Lord. And there are
diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in
all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to
profit withal. 1 Corinthians 12:4-7.

Verses 9-10: For behold, to one
is given by the Spirit of God, that he may teach the word of wisdom;
And to another, that he may teach the word of knowledge by the same
Spirit;

For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; 1 Corinthians 12:8.

Verse 11: And to another, exceedingly great faith; and to another, the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;

To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; 1 Corinthians 12:9.

Verses 12-16: And again, to
another, that he may work mighty miracles; And again, to another, that
he may prophesy concerning all things; And again, to another, the
beholding of angels and ministering spirits; And again, to another, all
kinds of tongues; And again, to another, the interpretation of
languages and of divers kinds of tongues.

To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another
discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another
the interpretation of tongues: 1 Corinthians 12:10.

Verse 17: And all these gifts come by the Spirit of Christ; and they come unto every man severally, according as he will.

But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will. 1 Corinthians 12:11

Verses 18-19: And I would
exhort you, my beloved brethren, that ye remember that every good gift
cometh of Christ. And I would exhort you, my beloved brethren, that ye
remember that he is the same yesterday, today, and forever, and that
all these gifts of which I have spoken, which are spiritual, never will
be done away, even as long as the world shall stand, only according to
the unbelief of the children of men.
Note: Christians will remember the gift of eternal life.
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23.

Christ comes from the Greek word christos, meaning "anointed one."
Verses 20-22: Wherefore, there
must be faith; and if there must be faith there must also be hope; and
if there must be hope there must also be charity. And except ye have
charity ye can in nowise be saved in the kingdom of God; neither can ye
be saved in the kingdom of God if ye have not faith; neither can ye if
ye have no hope. And if ye have no hope ye must needs be in despair;
and despair cometh because of iniquity.
Note: Sidney Rigdon plagiarized the Old King James Bible.
Therefore
being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus
Christ: By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we
stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. And not only so, but we
glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;
And patience, experience; and experience, hope: And hope maketh not
ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the
Holy Ghost which is given unto us. Romans 5:1-5.

Verses 23-27: And Christ truly
said unto our fathers: If ye have faith ye can do all things which are
expedient unto me. And now I speak unto all the ends of the earth—that
if the day cometh that the power and gifts of God shall be done away
among you, it shall be because of unbelief. And wo be unto the children
of men if this be the case; for there shall be none that doeth good
among you, no not one. For if there be one among you that doeth good,
he shall work by the power and gifts of God. And wo unto them who shall
do these things away and die, for they die in their sins, and they
cannot be saved in the kingdom of God; and I speak it according to the
words of Christ; and I lie not. And I exhort you to remember these
things; for the time speedily cometh that ye shall know that I lie not,
for ye shall see me at the bar of God; and the Lord God will say unto
you: Did I not declare my words unto you, which were written by this
man, like as one crying from the dead, yea, even as one speaking out of
the dust?
Note: There will always be a witness for Jesus Christ.
For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable. Romans 11:29.

Verse 28: I declare these
things unto the fulfilling of the prophecies. And behold, they shall
proceed forth out of the mouth of the everlasting God; and his word
shall hiss forth from generation to generation.
Note: God does not hiss like a snake.
I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s Day, and I heard behind me a loud
voice, as of a trumpet, saying, “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the
First and the Last,” and, “What you see, write in a book and send it to
the seven churches which are in Asia: to Ephesus, to Smyrna, to
Pergamos, to Thyatira, to Sardis, to Philadelphia, and to Laodicea.”
Revelation 1:10-11.
Verse 29: And God shall show unto you, that that which I have written is true.
Note: Pre-Columbian writing used pictures not letters.
The Mayan script was a logosyllabic system. Individual symbols
("glyphs") could represent either a word (actually a morpheme) or a
syllable; indeed, the same glyph could often be used for both.

Verse 30: And again I would
exhort you that ye would come unto Christ, and lay hold upon every good
gift, and touch not the evil gift, nor the unclean thing.
Note: Spiritual gifts will confirm a testimony of Jesus Christ.
I thank my God always concerning you for the grace of God which was
given to you by Christ Jesus, that you were enriched in everything by
Him in all utterance and all knowledge, even as the testimony of Christ
was confirmed in you, so that you come short in no gift, eagerly
waiting for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will also
confirm you to the end, that you may be blameless in the day of our
Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 1:4-8.

Verse 31: And awake, and arise
from the dust, O Jerusalem; yea, and put on thy beautiful garments, O
daughter of Zion; and strengthen thy stakes and enlarge thy borders
forever, that thou mayest no more be confounded, that the covenants of
the Eternal Father which he hath made unto thee, O house of Israel, may
be fulfilled.
Note: Sidney Rigdon plagiarized the Holy Bible.
Awake, awake! Put on your strength, O Zion; Put on your beautiful
garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city! For the uncircumcised and the
unclean shall no longer come to you. Shake yourself from the dust,
arise; Sit down, O Jerusalem! Loose yourself from the bonds of your
neck, O captive daughter of Zion! Isaiah 52:1-2.
Verses 32-33: Yea, come unto
Christ, and be perfected in him, and deny yourselves of all
ungodliness; and if ye shall deny yourselves of all ungodliness, and
love God with all your might, mind and strength, then is his grace
sufficient for you, that by his grace ye may be perfect in Christ; and
if by the grace of God ye are perfect in Christ, ye can in nowise deny
the power of God. And again, if ye by the grace of God are perfect in
Christ, and deny not his power, then are ye sanctified in Christ by the
grace of God, through the shedding of the blood of Christ, which is in
the covenant of the Father unto the remission of your sins, that ye
become holy, without spot.
Note: The power of God is promoted through human weakness.
And lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the
revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan
to buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure. Concerning this thing I
pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me. And He
said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made
perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my
infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 2 Corinthians
12:7-9.

Verse 34: And now I bid unto
all, farewell. I soon go to rest in the paradise of God, until my
spirit and body shall again reunite, and I am brought forth triumphant
through the air, to meet you before the pleasing bar of the great
Jehovah, the Eternal Judge of both quick and dead. Amen.
Note: The name Jehovah did not exist in pagan Pre-Columbian America.
Early modern translators disregarded the practice of reading Adonai (or
its equivalents in Greek and Latin, Κύριος and Dominus) in place of the
Tetragrammaton and instead combined the four Hebrew letters of the
Tetragrammaton with the vowel points that, except in synagogue scrolls,
accompanied them, resulting in the form Jehovah. This form, which first
took effect in works dated 1278 and 1303, was adopted in Tyndale's and
some other Protestant translations of the Bible. In the 1560 Geneva
Bible, the Tetragrammaton is translated as Jehovah six times, four as
the proper name, and two as place-names. In the 1611 King James
Version, Jehovah occurred seven times. Wikipedia Encyclopedia.
