Are You Called of God?
Note: Jesus is called the Christ or Messiah.
And Jacob begot Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus who is called Christ. Matthew 1:16
The woman said to Him, "I know that Messiah is coming" (who is called
Christ). "When He comes, He will tell us all things." Jesus said to
her, "I who speak to you am He." John 4:25-26
But you, do not be called 'Rabbi'; for One is your Teacher, the Christ,
and you are all brethren. Do not call anyone on earth your father; for
One is your Father, He who is in heaven. And do not be called teachers;
for One is your Teacher, the Christ. Matthew 23:8-10
Note: Joseph and Mary were called of God.
Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found
favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring
forth a Son and shall call His name Jesus. He will be great and will be
called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the
throne of His father David. And He will reign over the house of Jacob
forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.” Luke 1:30-33
But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord
appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be
afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in
her is of the Holy Spirit. And she will bring forth a Son, and you
shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their
sins.” So, all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was
spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: “Behold, the virgin
shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name
Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.” Then Joseph, being
aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took
to him his wife, and did not know her till she had brought forth her
firstborn Son. And he called His name Jesus. Matthew 1:20-25
Note: Jesus Christ was called out of Egypt.
“When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called My son.” Hosea 11:1
When he arose, he took the young Child and His mother by night and
departed for Egypt, and was there until the death of Herod, that it
might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet,
saying, "Out of Egypt I called My Son." Matthew 2:14-15
Note: Jesus Christ was called a Nazarene.
Nevertheless, the gloom will not be upon her who is distressed, as when
at first He lightly esteemed the land of Zebulun and the land of
Naphtali, and afterward more heavily oppressed her, by the way of the
sea, beyond the Jordan, in Galilee of the Gentiles. The people who
walked in darkness have seen a great light; Those who dwelt in the land
of the shadow of death, upon them a light has shined. Isaiah 9:1-2
Then he arose, took the young Child and His mother, and came into the
land of Israel. But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning over
Judea instead of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there. And being
warned by God in a dream, he turned aside into the region of Galilee.
And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth, that it might be
fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, “He shall be called a
Nazarene.” Matthew 2:21-23
Note: Jesus Christ called His disciples.
As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers,
Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into
the lake, for they were fishermen. “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and
I will send you out to fish for people.” At once they left their nets
and followed him. Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James
son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their
father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them, and
immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.
Matthew 4:18-22
And as He walked by the Sea of Galilee, He saw Simon and Andrew his
brother casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. Then Jesus
said to them, "Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men."
They immediately left their nets and followed Him. When He had gone a
little farther from there, He saw James the son of Zebedee, and John
his brother, who also were in the boat mending their nets. And
immediately He called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the
boat with the hired servants and went after Him. Mark 1:16-20
Jesus called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to
drive out impure spirits and to heal every disease and sickness. These
are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon (who is called
Peter) and his brother Andrew; James son of Zebedee, and his brother
John; Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector;
James son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; Simon the Zealot and Judas
Iscariot, who betrayed him. Matthew 10:1-4
And when it was day, He called His disciples to Himself; and from them
He chose twelve whom He also named apostles: Simon, whom He also named
Peter, and Andrew his brother; James and John; Philip and Bartholomew;
Matthew and Thomas; James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon called the
Zealot; Judas the son of James, and Judas Iscariot who also became a
traitor. Luke 6:13-16
Note: Paul was called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ.
Paul, a bondservant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated
to the gospel of God which He promised before through His prophets in
the Holy Scriptures, concerning His Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who was
born of the seed of David according to the flesh, and declared to be
the Son of God with power according to the Spirit of holiness, by the
resurrection from the dead. Romans 1:1-4
Paul, called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God,
and Sosthenes our brother, to the church of God which is at Corinth, to
those who are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all
who in every place call on the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both
theirs and ours: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the
Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 1:1-3
Note: Believers are called into fellowship with Jesus Christ.
Through Him we have received grace and apostleship for obedience to the
faith among all nations for His name, among whom you also are the
called of Jesus Christ; To all who are in Rome, beloved of God, called
to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord
Jesus Christ. Romans 1:5-7
God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of His
Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name
of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that
there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined
together in the same mind and in the same judgment. 1 Corinthians 1:9-10
For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know
God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to
save those who believe. For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after
wisdom; but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block
and to the Greeks foolishness, but to those who are called, both Jews
and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 1
Corinthians 1:21-24
I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in
the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, which is not another; but
there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of
Christ. Galatians 1:6-7
But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved
by the Lord, because God from the beginning chose you for salvation
through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth, to which
He called you by our gospel, for the obtaining of the glory of our Lord
Jesus Christ. 2 Thessalonians 2:13-14
Note: Believers have a purposeful calling by grace.
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and
of a sound mind. Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our
Lord, nor of me His prisoner, but share with me in the sufferings for
the gospel according to the power of God, who has saved us and called
us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to
His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before
time began, but has now been revealed by the appearing of our Savior
Jesus Christ, who has abolished death and brought life and immortality
to light through the gospel, to which I was appointed a preacher, an
apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles. 2 Timothy 1:7-11
Jude, a bondservant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to those who
are called, sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus
Christ: Mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to you. Jude 1:1-2
Note: Believers have been called to suffer for Jesus Christ.
For this is commendable, if because of conscience toward God one
endures grief, suffering wrongfully. For what credit is it if, when you
are beaten for your faults, you take it patiently? But when you do good
and suffer, if you take it patiently, this is commendable before God.
For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us,
leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps: “Who committed
no sin, Nor was deceit found in His mouth”; who, when He was reviled,
did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but
committed Himself to Him who judges righteously; who Himself bore our
sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might
live for righteousness--by whose stripes you were healed. 1 Peter
2:19-24
Note: Believers are called into eternal glory by Jesus Christ.
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about
like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast
in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your
brotherhood in the world. But may the God of all grace, who called us
to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while,
perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you. To Him be the glory and
the dominion forever and ever. Amen. 1 Peter 5:8-11
