TIRED WITH YOUR EMPTY LIFE?
WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS LIFE?
IS THERE ANY HOPE FOR A MEANIFUL LIFE?
IS THERE ANY HOPE FOR A BETTER WORLD SOME DAY?
WHERE CAN I FIND JOY THAT WILL LAST FOR A LIFETIME?
Philosophers have
pondered these questions and life in general for thousands of years.
For example Plato theorized that the meaning of life was achieved
through attaining knowledge. Other Greek philosophers believed that
being self-sufficient, seeking pleasure, seeking freedom from fear, or
seeking freedom from suffering was the ultimate meaning of life.
Eastern philosophies such as Buddhism generally proclaim that happiness
comes from being liberated by renouncing conventional living and
seeking a monastic lifestyle. We all know that each of these
definitions of satisfaction can be good but are temporary.
King Solomon who had it all including knowledge, wives, children,
riches, and fame summed up doing good things apart from God as being
meaningless. He wrote, “Therefore I hated life because the work that
was done under the sun was distressing to me, for all is vanity and
grasping for the wind.” (Ecclesiastes 2:17) Beyond just the temporary
attainment of satisfaction through knowledge, family, sex, drugs, money,
sports, fame or good works is the problem of evil committed by people upon others.
But how did this come to be?
The Apostle Paul who before his conversion committed murder in the name
of religion afterward wrote: “Therefore, just as through one person sin
entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all
people, because all have sinned.” (Romans 5:12) Yes, everyone has done
wrong be it in thought, word, or action since we have inherited our
nature from our parents going all the way back to the original
humans. This is why everyone will experience death as this is the
penalty for our sin nature. Regardless how good a person has become we
all have been infected with evil from conception. Then what hope is
there?
God in His love and mercy for this world and for us humans specifically
provided a remedy for our infected condition. Jesus Christ came to this
earth and paid the penalty for our human nature through His sacrificial
death. Jesus Christ said, “For God so loved the world that He
gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not
perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16) Again the Apostle Paul
writes, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not
of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should
boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9) Do you want this free gift of eternal life
with the joy of salvation now? If yes, then sincerely ask Jesus Christ
to come into your life and for His forgiveness of the wrongs that
you have been committed.
