CAPITAL PUNISHMENT FOR EVIL DOERS
1) Pre-mediated murder should result in the death penalty.
“He
who strikes a man so that he dies shall surely be put to death.
However, if he did not lie in wait, but God delivered him into his
hand, then I will appoint for you a place where he may flee. But if a
man acts with premeditation against his neighbor, to kill him by
treachery, you shall take him from My altar, that he may die.” Exodus
21:12-14.
2) The Apostle Paul declares that people who practice evil deserve death.
And
even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave
them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting;
being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness,
covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit,
evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, backbiters, haters of God,
violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to
parents, undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving,
unmerciful; who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who
practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but
also approve of those who practice them. Romans 1:28-32.
3) God has appointed governments to rule over people.
Let
every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no
authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed
by God. Romans 13:1
Note: Jesus Christ declared that government receives its authority from God.
Then
Pilate said to Him, “Are You not speaking to me? Do You not know that I
have power to crucify You, and power to release You?” Jesus answered,
“You could have no power at all against Me unless it had been given you
from above.” John 19:10-11.
4) Lawless people who resist God will bring judgment upon themselves.
Therefore
whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those
who resist will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers are not a
terror to good works, but to evil. Romans 13:2-3.
Note: The Apostle Peter proclaims that evildoers will be punished.
Therefore
submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake,
whether to the king as supreme, or to governors, as to those who are
sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and for the praise of those
who do good. 1 Peter 2:13-14.
5) Lawless people should be afraid of the wrath of God and government.
Do
you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will
have praise from the same. For he is God’s minister to you for good.
But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain;
for he is God’s minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who
practices evil. Therefore you must be subject, not only because of
wrath but also for conscience’ sake. Romans 13:3-5.
Note: Servants of God will do good things while evil people are foolish.
For
this is the will of God, that by doing good you may put to silence the
ignorance of foolish men—as free, yet not using liberty as a cloak for
vice, but as bondservants of God. 1 Peter 2:15-16.
6) Good people will pay taxes while evil people will not pay taxes.
For
because of this you also pay taxes, for they are God’s ministers
attending continually to this very thing. Render therefore to all their
due: taxes to whom taxes are due, customs to whom customs… Romans
13:6-7.
Note: Jesus Christ wants His followers to pay government taxes.
Then
the Pharisees went and plotted how they might entangle Him in His talk.
And they sent to Him their disciples with the Herodians, saying,
“Teacher, we know that You are true, and teach the way of God in truth;
nor do You care about anyone, for You do not regard the person of men.
Tell us, therefore, what do You think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to
Caesar, or not?” But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, “Why
do you test Me, you hypocrites? Show Me the tax money.” So they brought
Him a denarius. And He said to them, “Whose image and inscription is
this?” They said to Him, “Caesar’s.” And He said to them, “Render
therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things
that are God’s.” When they had heard these words, they marveled, and
left Him and went their way. Matthew 22:15-22.
7) Evil people will not fear, love, or honor anyone.
…fear to whom fear, honor to whom honor. Romans 13:7.
Note: The Apostle Peter exhorts Christians to be good people.
Honor all people. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king. 1 Peter 2:17.
